    摘要: Endoscopic biopsy forceps jaws having an outer edge which may be generally U-shaped, circular, or oblate circular are disclosed with teeth which extend completely around the outer edge. The teeth may take any of several arrangements. In a first arrangement, the teeth and valleys are formed with two substantially rectangular surfaces which meet at substantially horizontal vertex and nadir lines. In a second arrangement, each tooth has a vertex or peak located upward and inward from the outer edge, and is defined by a substantially triangular inner surface, a substantially quadrilateral base, and a surface which extends outward and downward from the vertex of the triangular surface to the outer edge of the jaw. Valleys between the teeth have two inclined surfaces which intersect along a line which extends inward and downward from the outer edge of the jaw. In a third arrangement, the peak of each tooth is defined by the vertex of a pyramid having four faces and valleys between these teeth have three substantially flat surfaces which intersect at a vertex which lies downward and inward from the outer edge of the jaw. Alternate embodiments of all arrangements include providing a lip around the outer portion of the outer edge so that the teeth and valleys are spaced farther in from the outer surface of the jaw cup.

    摘要: A deflection-limiting clevis includes a substantially cylindrical base with a pair of clevis arms extending therefrom, a clevis axle extending between distal ends of the clevis arms and a pair of stops located on interior portions of the clevis arms between the base and the axle. The stops are dimensioned and located to engage respective tangs of a pair of jaws, which are mounted on the axle, when the jaws are deflected across the center line of the clevis. A first embodiment of the clevis may be used with or without a conventional flat needle between the jaws. In a second embodiment of the clevis, a cross member is located between the clevis arms proximal of the clevis axle and distal of the cylindrical base. The cross member may be used to engage the proximal end of a shortened flat needle which is mounted between the jaws and is also used to engage the tangs of the jaws when the jaws are rotated about the axle to a point of deflection. A third embodiment of the invention combines aspects of the first and second embodiments and includes both a pair of stops located on interior portions of the clevis arms between the base and the axle and a cross member located between the stops and the cylindrical base. The third embodiment allows allowing the use of a shortened flat needle while also allowing some deflection of the jaws.

The battery has a cordless radio-frequency-signal-generation assembly generating an output radio-frequency signal and a first selectively removable connector part. The surgical handle has a first handle body portion with a bipolar cautery and cutting end effector. The end effector has jaws with bipolar contacts and a cutting blade disposed between the jaws. The handle has a second body portion connected to the first body portion, defines therein an aseptically sealable battery-holding compartment selectively exposed to the environment and removably holding therein the battery, and a second selectively removable connector part operable to removably hold the first connector part thereto. The second connector part has conductors electrically connecting the RF assembly to the bipolar contacts for supplying the radio-frequency signal to the bipolar contacts when the first and second connector parts are removably secured together.

    摘要: An electrically powered surgical instrument includes a surgical end effector having a surgical procedure effecting actuation assembly. A handle is coupled with the end effector. An electric motor is disposed within a shell of the handle and has power terminals and a drive train actuating the assembly when the motor is supplied with power. A break-before-make power supply switch at the handle selectively controls supply of power to the motor. A post-termination braking circuit electrically short-circuits the power terminals when the switch does not supply power to the motor. A method for post-termination braking of an electrical motor utilizes the permanent magnetic field of the motor to counteract an inertia-induced over-stroke characteristic of the motor, drive train, and/or actuation assembly after powered operation by short-circuiting the still-spinning motor to create an electrically generated magnetic field in opposition to the permanent magnetic field upon ceasing supply of power to the motor.
