Abstract: The present invention relates to an optical component and a transparent body used in the optical component. The optical component includes at least one optical element that radiates ultraviolet light, and a package that accommodates the optical element. The package includes a mounting substrate on which the optical element is mounted, and a transparent body that is bonded to the mounting substrate with an organic-based adhesive layer therebetween. The package has a structure in which the ultraviolet light is transmitted through the transparent body but not guided to the adhesive layer, and the ultraviolet light does not directly come into contact with the adhesive layer.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a transparent sealing member. A quartz glass transparent sealing member is used in an optical component having at least one optical element, and a mounting board on which the optical element is mounted, and constitutes, with the mounting board, a package that houses the optical element. The concentration of aluminum in a surface portion is higher than the concentration of aluminum in an inner portion.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a plugged honeycomb structure, includes: a forming raw material preparation step of mixing and kneading a partition wall base material raw material at least including cordierite powder and binder with water to obtain a partition wall base material forming raw material; a forming/drying step of forming the partition wall base material forming raw material to obtain a honeycomb formed body, and drying the honeycomb formed body to obtain a honeycomb dried body; a slurry application step of applying trapping layer forming slurry including a cordierite forming raw material or alumina to a surface of a not-fired partition wall base material of the obtained honeycomb dried body; a firing step of firing the slurry-applied honeycomb dried body; and a plugging step of disposing a plugging portion at open ends of predetermined cells of the slurry-applied honeycomb dried body or of the honeycomb fired body.

Abstract: There is provided a honeycomb structure including a honeycomb base material including a porous partition wall parent material; plugged portions; and a porous collecting layer disposed on the surface of the partition wall parent material in the remaining cells. A melting point of a material constituting the collecting layer is higher than that of a material constituting the partition wall parent material, a pore surface area per unit volume of the collecting layer is 2.0 times or more a pore surface area per unit volume of the partition wall parent material, and a thickness of a portion of the collecting layer which penetrates into pores of the partition wall parent material is 6% or smaller of that of each of partition walls including the partition wall parent material and the collecting layer.
