Abstract: An endoscope includes an imaging circuit that generates an imaging signal. The endoscope has a transmission path that connects the imaging circuit to a control device to perform image processing on the imaging signal. The endoscope also includes a phase synchronization unit having (i) a digital control oscillator that generates a drive clock signal, and (ii) a phase digital output circuit that generates and outputs a phase digital signal to the transmission path. A first switch of the endoscope connects the transmission path to one of the control device and the phase digital output circuit, and a second switch connects the transmission path to one of the imaging circuit and the digital control oscillator.

Abstract: An image pickup apparatus includes: a first sample hold circuit configured to sample-hold an image pickup signal; a second sample hold circuit configured to sample-hold a reference voltage signal; an output selection circuit configured to switchingly select one of the image pickup signal inputted from the first sample hold circuit and the reference voltage signal and output a selected signal as an image pickup output; and a timing generator configured to control a timing of the switching selection of the output selection circuit; wherein the timing generator decides the timing of the switching selection so that the reference voltage signal is transmitted in one pixel transmission period required for transmission of the image pickup signal of one pixel, and the reference voltage signal is transmitted once every time the image pickup signal of each of a plurality of pixels is transmitted.

The read circuit includes a column read circuit and a horizontal selection circuit, and a vertical selection circuit. The connection unit of the first chip is provided in a first area along a side of the rectangular light receiving unit, and in a second area adjacent to the column read circuit, the horizontal selection circuit, and the vertical selection circuit. The connection unit of the second chip is provided in a third area around the timing control circuit, the A/D conversion circuit, and the cable transmission circuit and in a fourth area adjacent to the timing control circuit and the A/D conversion circuit.

Abstract: An image sensor includes: photoelectric conversion elements configured to receive light and accumulate a charge corresponding to an amount of received light; an imaging signal generating unit that converts the charge accumulated in each photoelectric conversion element into a voltage to generate an imaging signal; and a reference signal generating unit that generates a reference signal having a fluctuation component with a same phase as the imaging signal. The imaging signal generating unit includes: a conversion circuit that converts the charge accumulated in each photoelectric conversion element into the imaging signal; a noise eliminating circuit that eliminates a noise component included in the imaging signal; and an output circuit that outputs the imaging signal from the conversion circuit. The reference signal generating unit includes a circuit having a same structure as that of at least one of the conversion circuit, the noise eliminating circuit, and the output circuit.
