This invention relates to acryloxy(or methacryloxy)alkyl(or alkyloxyalkyl) acryloxy(or methacryloxy)hydroxyalkyl organic polycarboxylic esters prepared by reacting an organic acid anhydride selected from the group consisting of trimellitic anhydride and pyromellitic anhydride with a hydroxyalkyl acrylate or methacrylate and then reacting this half-ester with a glycidyl acrylate or methacrylate. These compounds are useful in coating compositions and particularly coating compositions curable by radiation.

A method of applying coatings by electrodeposition utilizing a water-dispersed composition in which the major resinuous component is a reaction product of a polyepoxide and a boron ester substituted with an amino group. These compositions deposit on the cathode and provide coatings of improved properties, including a high degree of corrosion resistance.

A laminate comprises a plurality of laminµ bonded together with a cured adhesive layer of an interpolymer of a multi-unsaturated hydrocarbon and at least one olefin having a single copolymerizable ethylenic group, the said interpolymer having an essentially saturated carbon chain containing 20% or more of the total carbon atoms in each polymer molecule, being soluble in hydrocarbon solvents and containing prior to curing sufficient ethylenically unsaturated groups to permit curing of a thin film thereof by an oxidative mechanism so that it becomes tack-free and insoluble in hydrocarbon solvents. Preferred bonding agents are copolymers of dicyclopentadiene, bicycloheptadiene and/or vinylcyclohexene-1 with ethylene and/or propylene prepared using Ziegler catalysts. Laminµ bonded include rubber to rubber, especially ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer rubber to ABS rubber or natural rubber, steel and glass to various rubbers or to paper or plastics, glass to different rubber foams, steel and concrete to cellular glass blocks, steel and polytetrafluoroethylene to polyurethane foam, cotton gauze, paper, asbestos and glass fibre mat and cloth, and various types of steel to themselves. Also a paper honeycomb may be bonded between two steel sheets, or a glass cloth or a foam may be impregnated with the interpolymer and bonded between two steel sheets.

Synthetic resins which are water-dispersible Zwitterioncontaining resins and containing chemically-bound quaternary ammonium base groups can be dissolved or dispersed in water to provide aqueous coating compositions. Such compositions in which these resins are the major resinous component can be applied by electrodeposition and deposit on the cathode to provide coatings of improved properties including a high degree of resistance to corrosion or staining.
