Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. In some systems (e.g., Wi-Fi systems), a transmitting device such as an access point (AP) or mobile station (STA), may identify a number of spatial streams for a data transmission that is less than a number of transmit antennas, and may transmit a packet over a channel. In a first implementation, the packet may be formatted in a multi-user frame format, with a number of long training field (LTF) symbols equal to the number of transmit antennas. In a second implementation, the packet may be a null data packet (NDP), and the device may transmit a separate data packet. In a third implementation, the packet may be formatted in single-user frame format with a modified LTF. A receiving device may receive the packet, and may perform channel estimation and power amplifier (PA) distortion cancellation based on the received packet.

Abstract: Generally, the described techniques provide for protection mechanisms for sounding training signals transmitted between wireless devices when performing ranging sounding estimation. For example, sounding training signals may be encoded to include a sequence of phase rotations or cyclic shifts to protect the sounding training signal from peer devices. In some cases, encoding information associated with a long training field (LTF) may be transmitted either before or after the LTF is transmitted. Additionally or alternatively, a time delay may be introduced to the sounding training signal, where timing information may be removed from one or more fields of the sounding training signal and the time delay may be appended to an interframe spacing. Alternatively, a frame may be split into multiple frames with the sounding training signal in a first frame, and timing information in a second frame that is offset in time from the first frame.

Abstract: A ranging operation between an initiator device and a responder device may be performed by receiving, from the initiator device, a data frame including a request for the responder device to report its actual Short Interframe Space (SIFS) duration to the initiator device; creating a response frame; determining the actual SIFS duration based on the received data frame and the response frame; embedding SIFS information indicative of the actual SIFS duration of the responder device into the response frame; and sending the response frame to the initiator device.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A wireless device (e.g., an access point or a station) capable of supporting multiple chain configuration modes may monitor traffic on a wireless channel. The wireless device may, based on the monitoring, determine a series of values for a metric that is indicative of communication conditions. The metric may be a packet rate, channel congestion, or signal strength. The wireless device may dynamically select one of the supported chain configuration modes in which to operate based on the series of values for the metric. In some cases, the wireless device may compute a value for the metric based on the series of values and compare the value of the metric to a predetermined threshold. In such cases, selection of the chain configuration mode may be based on the results of the comparison. In some examples, one or metrics may be used.

Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatuses for performing ranging operations between wireless devices. In some implementations, wireless devices can exchange ranging packets that include packet extensions containing a plurality of long training fields (LTFs). The wireless devices can use the LTFs in the ranging packets to obtain a plurality of round-trip time (RTT) values based on a single exchange of ranging packets. The wireless devices also can use the LTFs to estimate angle of arrival (AoA) and angle of departure (AoD) information of the exchanged ranging packets.

Abstract: Methods, systems, devices, and apparatuses are described for wireless communications in which first type of traffic may be transmitted from a gateway access point (AP) directly to a station. Beacon signals transmitted to the station are transmitted as part of the first type of traffic. A second type of traffic may be transmitted from the gateway AP to the station via at least one relay AP. The first type of traffic may include low-throughput traffic and may be transmitted over a long-range radio link (e.g., 2 GHz band link or sub-1 GHz band link). The second type of traffic may include high-throughput traffic and may be transmitted over at least one short-range radio link (e.g., 5 GHz band link). The gateway AP may receive low-throughput traffic directly from the station and high-throughput traffic from the station via the at least one relay AP.

Abstract: A system and method for transmitting LDPC parameters is provided. In the method, an initial number of OFDM symbols (Nsym_init) is determined for a packet that is based on the number of information bits to be delivered in the packet. An STBC value is also determined. A number of extra symbols (Nsym_ext) value is generated based on the Nsym_init value, wherein a Nsym value is based on said Nsym_init value and said Nsym_ext value. An Nldpc_ext value is determined based on the STBC value and the Nsym_ext value for purposes of determining LDPC parameters associated with the packet.
