摘要: Various aspects of the present disclosure include methods, components and wireless devices configured to determine appropriate generalized system-wide thermal management policies and settings in wireless devices depending upon whether communication activities are driving or otherwise causing thermal conditions. In various aspects, a processor may determine workload characteristics and select and apply an appropriate thermal management policy/solution (or thermal configuration, settings etc.) based on the determine workload characteristics. The processor may determine workload characteristics based upon data from two or more temperature sensors within the wireless device. The processor may select a generalized system-wide thermal management policy suitable for operating when communication activities (e.g., 5G communication activities) are generating so much heat that CPU-centric thermal management policies are in appropriate.

摘要: Various embodiments of methods and systems context-aware thermal management in a portable computing device (“PCD”) are disclosed. Notably, the environmental context to which a PCD is subjected may have significant impact on the PCD's thermal energy dissipation efficiency. Embodiments of the solution seek to leverage knowledge of a PCD's environmental context to modify or adjust thermal policy parameters applied within a PCD in response to a thermal event within the PCD.

摘要: Disclosed are methods and systems for intelligent adjustment of an immersive multimedia workload in a portable computing device (“PCD”), such as a virtual reality (“VR”) or augmented reality (“AR”) workload. An exemplary embodiment monitors one or more performance indicators comprising a motion to photon latency associated with the immersive multimedia workload. Performance parameters associated with thermally aggressive processing components are adjusted to reduce demand for power while ensuring that the motion to photon latency is and/or remains optimized. Performance parameters that may be adjusted include, but are not limited to including, eye buffer resolution, eye buffer MSAA, timewarp CAC, eye buffer FPS, display FPS, timewarp output resolution, textures LOD, 6DOF camera FPS, and fovea size.

摘要: Various embodiments include power management system methods including receiving, at a processor(s), a notification signal triggering the processor(s) to implement power usage mitigation at the processor(s), determining, by the processor(s), a mitigation amount of power rail power by which to mitigate current usage at a power rail based on a use case for the power rail, and implementing power usage mitigation at the processor(s) by the processor(s) sufficient to mitigate power usage at the power rail by the mitigation amount of power rail power. Power usage mitigation may include reducing processor(s) current usage: by a predefined amount; proportional to the amount a power rail current exceeds a power rail current threshold; by the amount of current exceeding a processor current threshold; or by a smallest amount between the amount a power rail current exceeds a power rail current threshold and the processor(s) current exceeds a processor current threshold.

摘要: A method includes generating temperature information from a plurality of temperature sensors within a computing device, wherein a first one of the temperature sensors is physically located at a first processing unit of the computing device; processing the temperature information to identify that the first temperature sensor is associated with temperature that is at or above a threshold; and assigning a processing thread to a first core of a plurality of cores of a second processing unit in response to identifying that the first temperature sensor is associated with temperature that is at or above the threshold and based at least in part on a physical distance between the first core and the first temperature sensor.

摘要: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for allocating a total power budget among a plurality of components of a user device are provided. The apparatus prioritizes the plurality of components based on a user experience model (performance/power model) for each of the plurality of components. The user experience model (performance/power model) of a component includes a measure of component attribute as a function of component power consumption. The apparatus allocates portions of the total power budget among the user-device components based on priority established by the user experience model. The apparatus may further prioritize the components based on weights assigned to the components.
