    摘要: A petrochemical is produced by the vapor phase reaction of a hydrocarbon with air in the presence of a suitable catalyst. The petrochemical is removed from the reactor effluent, and part or all of the remaining petrochemical-free gas stream is passed through a hydrocarbon-selective adsorbent, which adsorbs hydrocarbon from the gas stream, leaving a hydrocarbon-depleted waste gas. Hydrocarbon is purged from the adsorbent with air, and the air-hydrocarbon mixture is recycled to the partial oxidation reactor. The purge air, and preferably both the purge air and the petrochemical-free gas stream are dried by passage through beds of zeolite 3A prior to being introduced into the hydrocarbon-selective adsorbent, and the beds of zeolite 3A are regenerated by passing heated hydrocarbon-depleted waste gas therethrough.

    摘要: Hydrocarbon gas is separated from a gas mixture by concentration swing adsorption in a system consisting of a pair of adjacent adsorption beds that are contained in a cylindrical vessel and separated by a flat partition wall. The system is operated with the beds out of phase, such that one bed is in adsorption service while the other bed is regenerated by purging the bed with air. The pressure and temperature in the bed undergoing adsorption does not differ from the pressure and temperature, respectively in the bed being regenerated sufficiently to create significant stresses in the partition separating the beds. In a modified version, the gas mixture and purge air are dried by simultaneously passing these gases through one pair of adjacent adsorption beds that are contained in a cylindrical vessel and separated by a flat partition wall with the respective pressures and temperatures in the two beds being substantially equal, while a substantially identical pair of adjacent adsorption beds are being regenerated by passing heated nonadsorbed gas from the hydrocarbon adsorption system through the beds at a substantially constant temperature and pressure.

    摘要: A method for producing hydrogen by performing the steps of feeding a synthesis gas mixture to a pressure swing adsorption unit; producing hydrogen from the synthesis gas mixture in the pressure swing adsorption unit; feeding the remainder of the synthesis gas mixture at low pressure to an electrochemical cell wherein hydrogen is separated from the remainder of the synthesis gas mixture and is simultaneously pressurized; feeding the pressurized hydrogen from the electrochemical cell to join with the hydrogen generated in the pressure swing adsorption unit and recovering the combined hydrogen product. The synthesis gas mixture may be from a reformation unit and it may be subject to a water gas shift reaction. In addition to the production of hydrogen, the separation of hydrogen in the electrochemical cell increases the concentration of carbon dioxide in the residual waste gas and enables carbon dioxide recovery.
