The present technology relates to a reception device, a transmission device, and a data processing method for easily controlling operation of an application accompanying content.The reception device receives the content and controls activation of the application accompanying the content on the basis of valid period information indicating a period in which the application is valid, thereby to easily control the operation of the application accompanying the content. The present technology can be applied to, for example, a television receiver or the like capable of receiving terrestrial broadcasting.

The present technology relates to a receiving device, a receiving method, a transmitting device, and a transmitting method that enable operation of subtitles to be displayed in a superimposed manner on broadcast content reliably.The receiving device acquires trigger information for providing a function relating to subtitles, the trigger information including location information by which a resource on the Internet is identifiable; acquires subtitle information including a document relating to subtitles described in a predetermined computer language, on the basis of the location information included in the trigger information; and controls displaying of the subtitles on the basis of at least one of the trigger information and the subtitle information. The present technology is applicable to a television receiver capable of receiving digital broadcast signals, for example.

Provided are a device and a method capable of efficiently performing a synthesis process of broadcast reception data and network reception data. Broadcast reception data received by a receiving device via a communication unit is set as a media source object corresponding to a processing object of an application executed by the receiving device under an application programming interface (API). The application executes a synthesis process of the broadcast reception data and network reception data received via a network as processing for the media source object. The application obtains a time offset corresponding to a time difference between an application time axis and a broadcast time axis on the basis of an API application process to execute a high-accuracy and low-delay data synthesis process.

The receiving apparatus includes: a receiving block; a trigger acquisition block; an application acquisition block; and a control block. The control block acquires trigger information and, on the basis of a command obtained from the acquired trigger information, acquires a data broadcast application from an application server on the Internet or a data broadcast application transmitted as NRT content of an NRT service using a FLUTE session by referencing an FDT identified by an SMT and an NRT-IT. In accordance with a command obtained from the acquired trigger information, the control block controls an operation of the acquired application program. The present technology is applicable to television receivers configured to receive digital television broadcast signals.

The cache memory temporarily stores a coordinated application that is executed in coordination with received AV content. When a plurality of coordinated applications are stored in the cache memory, a control block controls the cache memory according to the priority of the coordinated applications which corresponds to a predetermined frequency specified for each of them in advance. The present technology is applicable to, for example, television receivers that receive digital television broadcast signals.
