摘要： Polyisobutylenes (PIBs) containing a high proportion of vinylidene end groups are generally favored over conventional PIBs because of their higher reactivity in reactions that are needed to prepare fuel and lubricant additives. However, detergent additives that have been prepared from conventional PIBs actually perform better than detergent additives prepared from high reactive PIBs. Specifically, detergent additives that were prepared from conventional PIB that was then enriched with tri- and tetra-PIB resulted in altered thermal stability and improved detergency of the resulting compound as compared to the structures which were created using a high proportion of vinylidene end groups.

The composition includes an amination product of a hydrocarbyl substituted succinic acylating agent and a mixture containing an aliphatic polyamine and an aromatic polyamine. The molar ratio of aliphatic polyamine to aromatic polyamine in the mixture ranges from about 10:0.1 to about 0.1:10. The amination product contains at least about 0.1 molar equivalent of the polyamine mixture to 1 molar equivalent of the hydrocarbyl substituted succinic acylating agent.

The composition includes a reaction product of a treated amine and a compound selected from the group consisting of hydrocarbyl succinic anhydrides, Mannich adducts derived from hydrocarbyl-substituted phenols reacted with formaldehydes, ethylene-propylene copolymers grafted with ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic groups, copolymers of unsaturated acids and polyolefins, and acid or ester functionalized hydrocarbon polymers. The reaction product is oil soluble and has a number average molecular weight ranging from about 900 to about 50,000 as determined by gel permeation chromatography. The treated amine includes an aliphatic or aromatic amine containing at least one primary or secondary amino group reacted with an aliphatic or aromatic nitrile and hydrogen.
