A process is described for the catalytic removal of H2S gas from a sour gas stream in the presence of a chelate ligand of the formula (I) where: X is hydrogen, an alkali metal or NH4+, n is 1, 2 or 3, and at least one of the radicals R1 to R6 is alkyl, aryl, alkyloxy, aryloxy, carboxyl or hydroxyl, the remaining radicals being hydrogen, and the metal in the metal chelate complex is a polyvalent metal, which can occur in more than one oxidation state. A mixture is also described for removing H2S gas from a sour gas stream, the mixture comprising an aminocarboxylate-containing metal chelate complex, and the use is also described of an aminocarboxylate-containing metal chelate complex for removing H2S gas from a sour gas stream.

The invention describes a process for the preparation of novel surfactant alcohols and surfactant alcohol ethers by derivatization of olefins having from about 10 to 20 carbon atoms or of mixtures of such olefins to give alkanols, and optional subsequent alkoxylation, which comprises subjecting a C4-olefin mixture to metathesis, dimerizing the resulting olefins, and then derivatizing them to give surfactant alcohols, and optionally alkoxylating said alcohols. The olefin mixture obtained in the dimerization has a high proportion of branched components and less than 10% by weight of compounds which contain a vinylidene group. The invention further describes the use of the surfactant alcohols and surfactant alcohol ethers to give surfactants by glycosylation or polyglycosylation, sulfation or phosphation.

Polycationic condensates obtainable by condensing (a) piperazine, 1-alkylpiperazines having 1 to 25 carbon atoms in the alkyl group, 1,4-dialkylpiperazines having 1 to 25 carbon atoms in the alkyl group, 1,4-bis(3-aminopropyl)piperazine, 1-(2-aminoethyl)piperazine, 1-(2-hydroxyalkyl)piperazines having 2 to 25 carbon atoms in the alkyl group, imidazole, C1-C25-alkylimidazoles or mixtures of said compounds with (b) alkylene dihalides, epihalohydrins and/or bisepoxides in the molar ratio from 1:0.8 to 1:1.1 and, where appropriate, quaternization of the condensates with C4-C25-alkylating agents or by heating triethanolamine or triisopropanolamine in the presence of acidic catalysts and quaternizing the condensates with C4-C25-alkylating agents as color-fixing additive to detergents and fabric conditioners, and detergents which comprise (i) 1-50% by weight of at least one nonionic surfactant, (ii) 0-4.0% by weight of an anionic surfactant and (iii) 0.05-2.5% by weight of the polycationic condensate are used as color transfer inhibiting and color release reducing additive, and fabric conditioners which comprise a fabric softener, a nonionic surfactant and 0.1-2.5% by weight of said polycationic condensates.

The invention describes a process for the preparation of surfactant alcohols and surfactant alcohol ethers which are, inter alia, highly suitable as surfactants or for the preparation of surfactants. The process, starting from olefin mixtures having a defined minimum content of linear hexenes, gives mixtures having a predominant fraction of branched dodecenes, which are subsequently derivatized to give surfactant alcohols and then optionally alkoxylated.The surfactant alcohol mixture obtained in the process has a degree of branching of from 2.0 to 3.0 and in particular exhibits advantageous properties as regards ecotoxicity and biodegradability.A description is also given of the use of the surfactant alcohols and surfactant alcohol ethers as surfactants by glycosidation or polyglycosidation, sulfation or phosphation.
