    摘要: A fuel property, i.e., ordinary fuel, heavy fuel or mixture of both, is determined using an engine rotations. After an engine temperature exceeds 0.degree. C. and an engine attains a complete combustion, an engine speed is integrated. It is determined whether a deviation between the integrated value of the engine speed and an integrated value of a set engine speed is larger than a predetermined determination value. As a result, it can be determined whether the fuel fed to the internal combustion engine has a volatility identical to that of the ordinary fuel, so that the fuel properties can be highly accurately determined.

    摘要: An engine control system has a self-diagnosis function of an exhaust system. The self-diagnosis function includes a first mode for detecting a failure or abnormality of the exhaust system as a whole, and a second mode for determining and locating a specific failed component in the exhaust system. The first mode is executed during the engine is operated under a normal condition. Therefore it is possible to detect the failure of the exhaust system without lowering a drive performance or increasing emissions. In case of detecting any failure in the first mode, the second mode is activated in response to a command signal that can be entered via a service tool. In the second mode, the engine is operated in order to determine the failed component. In the second mode, determining the failed component takes priority over keeping the drive performance or reducing emissions.

    摘要: When the output of the AFR ratio sensor is stable in a steady operating state, the amount of fuel is increased by step inputting to detect a point where the gradient of change in the sensor output exceeds a threshold value as a point of start of change. The time from the timing of increasing the fuel until the point of start of change is detected as a dead time. A response time is calculated until the amount of change in the sensor output reaches a predetermined ratio of the amount of change (AA−BA) of up to the steady value AA of the sensor output after the amount of the fuel is increased from the steady value BA of the sensor output before the amount of the fuel is increased. The fail condition in the AFR ratio sensor is determined based on the dead time TA and the response time TB.

    摘要: An air-fuel ratio control system for an internal combustion engine includes an air-fuel ratio sensor provided at a collecting portion of an exhaust manifold. The air-fuel ratio sensor monitors an exhaust gas and changes its output in a linear fashion relative to an air-fuel ratio represented by the exhaust gas. The air-fuel ratio sensor is arranged at a position such that, after the number of strokes, corresponding to a multiple of the number of all cylinders, from a fuel injection for each cylinder, the air-fuel ratio sensor can measure an air-fuel ratio caused by the corresponding fuel injection. The system stores a target fuel amount for each of the cylinders. The system derives a feedback correction value depending on a deviation between a fuel amount introduced into the corresponding cylinder, which is derived based on the air-fuel ratio monitored by the air-fuel ratio sensor, and the stored number-of-stroke prior target fuel amount.

    摘要: An assist air control system for an internal combustion engine introduces, via an assist air passage bypassing a throttle valve, a portion of intake air flowing in an intake pipe upstream of the throttle valve to an area where fuel is injected from a fuel injection valve, so as to facilitate atomization of the injected fuel. The assist air passage includes a flow control unit for opening and closing the assist air passage. The degree of opening of the assist air passage is limited to a value that is reduced as an engine temperature increases, while increased as an engine load increases. The opening degree of the flow control unit may be controlled electrically, mechanically, or both. In this case, the electrically controlled opening degree value is set smaller than the mechanically controlled opening degree value.
