摘要: A flow restrictor includes a flexible tube held in a housing and a linear actuator connected through an intermediate link to a distal link via a first revolute joint proximate the linear actuator and a second revolute joint connecting the intermediate and distal links. The distal link has a distal end adjacent the flexible tube and the intermediate and distal links are constrained to move such that when the linear actuator moves the first revolute joint toward the linear actuator, the distal end of the distal link is driven into the side of the tube thereby progressively occluding the flexible tube.

摘要: According to embodiments, priming systems, methods, and devices are disclosed which allow medical treatment devices which pump fluid to be primed with minimal operator intervention and a high level of convenience. A blood circuit with a filter fitted with one or more air vents on a non-blood compartment is attached to a treatment system and priming fluid pumped slowly through the blood circuit in a loop. The source of fluid may be elevated, or the pumping may generate pressure, such that priming fluid is forced through the membrane of the filter and out the air vent(s). In embodiments, the vents are hydrophobic which prevent fluid from being ejected, so the priming system can run without intervention.

摘要: Methods, device, and systems for preparing peritoneal dialysis fluid and/or administering a peritoneal dialysis treatment are disclosed. In embodiments, peritoneal dialysis fluid is prepared at a point of use automatically using a daily sterile disposable fluid circuit and one or more long-term concentrate containers that are changed only after multiple days (e.g. weekly). The daily disposable may have concentrate containers that are initially empty and are filled from the long-term concentrate containers once per day at the beginning of a treatment.

摘要: A pressure measurement system includes a pressure pod with two chambers separated by a diaphragm such that a deformation/movement of the diaphragm is indicative of a difference between the pressures of the two chambers. Such deformation/movement is detected by a device that has no physical contact with the diaphragm, for example, by an optical detector that detects a change in the shape of the diaphragm or a movement of a protrusion on the diaphragm.

摘要: A method of making a needle guard includes providing a mold having a portion defining a volume, the volume being a hollow cylinder with non-uniform walls with a pair of slots therein, the slots being open at one end and closed at the other end, the pair of slots having a major portion of constant width. The walls are thicker at the other end than at the one end. The method includes filling the volume with polymer and releasing a molded part from said mold and cooling a molded part resulting from the filling and releasing such that temperature that the widths of the pair of slots is non-uniform after cooling. The needle guard has upper and lower jaws defining a channel and coming together at a hinge. A winged needle can be inserted between the jaws, with the wings of the winged needle passing through slots between the jaws.

摘要: Methods and devices for use and handling of intravenous and/or subcutaneous needles, and, more particularly, to safety devices for shielding needles or other sharp articles or devices that present a safety hazard are disclosed. In an embodiment, a needle protective sheath can include a top wall, a bottom wall, and a pair of side walls joining the top and bottom walls. A finger shield extends from the top wall at a front opening of the sheath and is attached to the top wall by a hinge portion. The finger shield can be rotated about the hinge portion to block the front opening so as to secure a needle within the sheath.

摘要: A blood treatment system with pressure sensors may be configured to control blood flow to and from the patient and use readings of the pressure sensors to determine a change in a pressure drop across a flow restriction in the blood circuit to estimate a condition of the machine or the patient, or outputting data responsive to the estimation. Further embodiments employ measurement of pressure drop to detect abnormal viscosity or viscosity variations in order to detect possible infection.

摘要: A method of automatically ensuring against chloramine contamination in purified product water includes supplying input water to the system and purifying the water to generate the purified product water. The purifying includes removing chlorine and chloramine contamination from the water using a carbon filter and supplying chlorine-depleted water to a deionization filter, and deionizing the chlorine-depleted water using said deionization filter. The product water is supplied to a sensor for continuous monitoring of the resistivity of the purified product water by the first sensor, and an alarm is generated indicating possible chloramine breakthrough when the resistivity of the product water falls below a predetermined resistivity level, which is selected to provide a reserve filter capacity before breakthrough would occur. The carbon filter is replaced at least responsively to the alarm to ensure excess capacity of said carbon filter sufficient to prevent chloramine breakthrough in said product water.

摘要: Methods and systems for reducing electrical leakage current between a patient and a medical device include sensing electrical current in a fluid line and inducing a cancelling electrical current or voltage to reduce the electrical leakage current. A system for implementing the method includes one or more sensors/transducers and a controller that drives the transducer(s) based on signals from the sensor(s).
