The food item is prepared by either combining, mixing, or integrating the ingredients that form the food item together with one of or both of a laxative and electrolytes so that the ingredients in the food item either eliminate or significantly reduce the poor taste associated with either the electrolytes or the laxative. Eliminating or reducing the poor taste associated with either electrolytes or laxative, greatly improves patient satisfaction and compliance with ingesting these substances in order to, for example, prepare the GI tract of the patient for a medical or surgical procedure.

The present invention proposes a formulation and the process to prepare thick water to be administered to patients afflicted by dysphagia. It particularly comprises of a polymer that helps the formulation to stay thick when administered and thins out as it passes to the stomach. The formulation does not regain viscosity when it enters duodenum and small intestine regions. This formulation for the management of dysphagia can be prepared at any consistency/viscosity required. Some of the advantages proposed are a decrease in feeling of satiety, ease of administration and no effect on the bioavailability of co-administered medications.

The invention discloses odor masking formulations for stench natural compounds, selected from the extracts, fraction and pure phytochemicals that are produced in combination with a natural or synthetic hydrocolloid polymer gum(s). The invention further discloses novel process of producing the odor and taste masking formulations. The invention also discloses taste masking formulations of valerian extracts with no characteristic stench odor & or negligible stench odor in combination with natural hydrocolloid gum such as guar gum, acacia or other polymers. The invention further discloses method of reducing insomnia, anxiety, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) using odor masking formulation of the current invention. Importantly, the said odor masked formulation of the present disclosure helps in improving sleep cycle and helps in efficient functioning of brain.
