摘要: Elongated, curled cartilage fibers and shaped implants comprising them are disclosed, as well as methods for making and using them. A cohesive mass of intertwined cartilage fibers may be shaped to provide a shaped implant which conforms to an implant site. The implant may also be reshaped to have a second shape which conforms to an implant site. The implant site may be the cavity of a cartilage defect, or a space or pocket at a treatment site, any of which may have resulted from treatment, injury, or disease. The implant may be shaped or reshaped to conform to, or replace, an anatomical feature or portion thereof, for repair or treatment of the anatomical feature. Shaped implants comprising the cartilage fibers have good shape retention and are capable of completely filling, and resisting migration from, an implant site after administration and hydration.

摘要: This invention provides solid substrates for promoting cell or tissue growth or restored function, which solid substrate is characterized by a specific fluid uptake capacity value of at least 75%, which specific fluid uptake capacity value is determined by establishing a spontaneous fluid uptake value divided by a total fluid uptake value. This invention also provides solid substrates for promoting cell or tissue growth or restored function, which solid substrate is characterized by having a contact angle value of less than 60 degrees, when in contact with a fluid. This invention also provides solid substrates for promoting cell or tissue growth or restored function, which said substrate is characterized by a substantial surface roughness (Ra) as measured by scanning electron microscopy or atomic force microscopy. The invention also provides for processes for selection of an optimized coral-based solid substrate for promoting cell or tissue growth or restored function and applications of the same.

摘要: The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing collagen for restoring cartilage tissue usable for a joint in an injection manner, and a usage method thereof. The present invention provides a method of obtaining a high-concentration collagen-solution injection by aseptically filling an injection container with collagen separated from pig skin tissue, and a method of using the high-viscosity collagen loaded into the injection container for the purpose of cartilage restoration. Cartilage tissue regeneration is effectively induced when tissue restoration is implemented with respect to a cartilage-deficient portion using collagen, which is a biocompatible material, in a form that is capable of being injected into an application site with an injection needle without a surgical incision. Accordingly, restoration and regeneration of cartilage are easily and quickly induced in an animal, excluding a human, while relieving the burden related to surgery.

摘要: A composite for osteochondral defect repair includes a porous scaffold and a periosteal graft secured to a surface of the scaffold. The composite provides cartilage growth from autologous periosteum chondrogenesis. Biological resurfacing of large osteochondral defects, or a complete joint is feasible using the porous scaffold/autologous periosteal composite. The use of this composite eliminates the necessity of using normal cartilage surface as a donor site and its respective associated morbidity. In one form, the strong bone integration capacity of a porous metal (e.g., tantalum) scaffold and the high grade of integration observed from periosteal chondrogenesis into the normal cartilage eliminates the lack of chondral-chondral integration observed in the autologous osteochondral graft technique.

摘要: The invention is directed to producing a shaped cartilage matrix isolated from a human or animal where the cartilage has been crafted to facilitate disinfection, cleaning, devitalization, recellularization, and/or integration after implantation. The invention relates to a process for repairing a cartilage defect and implantation of a cartilage graft into a human or animal by crafting the cartilage matrix into individual grafts, disinfecting and cleaning the cartilage graft, applying a pretreatment solution to the cartilage graft, removing cellular debris using an extracting solution to produce a devitalized cartilage graft, implanting the cartilage graft into the cartilage defect with or without an insertion device, and sealing the implanted cartilage graft with recipient tissue. The devitalized cartilage graft is optionally recellularized in vitro, in vivo, or in situ with viable cells to render the tissue vital before or after the implantation. The devitalized cartilage graft is also optionally stored between the removing cellular debris and the recellularizing steps.
