A transfer member is produced by such a process, and an image-forming apparatus uses the transfer member. The transfer member can be produced either as an intermediate transfer belt or a transfer belt which has a stable peripheral length.

    摘要: A continuous process for incorporating a thermally sensitive additive into a polymer melt of virgin polymer at a temperature at least 10° C. below a temperature at which the virgin polymer is typically processed. The virgin polymer is first processed in an apparatus which extensively shear-thins the polymer until its normally entangled molecules are substantially disentangled. This is preferably done in a TekFlow® processor. The additive is then added to the resulting modified melt which is then processed in a high-shear apparatus, e.g. a co-rotating, twin-screw extruder, but more preferably in a second TekFlow® processor. This novel process allows making concentrates having a level of additive which could not be made to date and yet have the additive substantially uniformly dispersed. In particular a concentrate of polypropylene having a 30% by wt concentration of an organoclay in which the platelets are substantially uniformly dispersed, at least 10% more strongly intercalated than prior to treatment, and substantially fully exfoliated, is made with this process.

    摘要: A control is provided for a wire coating line which includes means for driving wire along a path at controllable speed while coating it with plastic extruded at a controlled rate and temperature, and cooling means are located at a controllable distance from the coating means to solidify the plastic. The controllable factors affect both the capacitance and diameter of the wire produced. The control allows the line to be run in accord with stored digital values for the matters to be controlled. Closed loop control is provided because the relevant factors of line operation are measured, the analogue measurements converted to digital values and compared with the stored values to produce a control signal which has the effect of reducing the differences between a desired and measured line condition as represented by the digital values compared. Closed loop control is also provided for control of the line to produce desired capacitance or diameter values in the coated wire. Whichever of capacitance or diameter is used as the basis for line control is measured and provided as a digital value to the control. This digital value is compared to a stored digital value representative of the desired capacitance or diameter. The results of the comparison is used to update the stored digital value for an operating condition of the line so that the parameter is altered to provide an operating condition which brings the capacitance or diameter closer to the desired value.

    摘要: An insulator composition of foamed synthetic resin is supplied to an extruder 3, and the synthetic resin is extruded onto a wire 4a continuously supplied to the extruder 3 at a temperature higher than or equal to a foaming temperature, to cover the wire 4a with the insulator composition. Then, the wire 4a covered with the insulator composition is solidified by cooling in a water-cooling trough 6 movable towards and away from the extruder 3 in a direction of supply of the wire 4a. In this operation, an outer diameter D and a capacitance C of the insulator composition are controlled such that when the water-cooling trough 6 reaches its movable limit, either a deviation .DELTA.D of a detection value of the outer diameter D from its target preset value or a deviation .DELTA.C of a detection value of the capacitance C from its target preset value is selected as a deviation (.DELTA.D or .DELTA.C) that may first exceed a tolerance range upon changing an amount of supply of the insulator composition to the extruder 3, and then the amount of supply is controlled so that the other deviation (.DELTA.C or .DELTA.D) is decreased under the condition where the selected deviation (.DELTA.D or .DELTA.C) falls within the tolerance.
