Abstract: An electrospray printing system that produces conformal films includes a printhead. A housing of the printhead includes a solution reservoir operable to receive a solution that includes a print material suspended in a solvent. An electrical potential is applied to the solution to produce an electrically charged solution that is emitted from the solution reservoir towards a target substrate. Electrostatic focusing is used to guide the print material to the target substrate.

Abstract: An aqueous ink jet ink composition according to the present embodiment is an aqueous ink jet ink composition for use in an ink jet recording method that includes ejecting ink from an ink jet head. The ink jet head includes nozzles that have a side wall surface, and the side wall surface has a scalloped shape in which a scallop width S1 and a notch depth S2 satisfy S1/S2≥4. The aqueous ink jet ink composition includes a self-dispersed pigment and a solvent that includes a compound represented by formula (1) below.

Abstract: A system and method for applying patterns to surfaces. A pattern may be applied to a surface of an object using a three-dimensional (3D) printer system. The 3D printer system may include a printer head including an applicator holding material used to form the pattern on the surface, a structure configured to hold a substrate to which the material will be applied, and a controller for adjusting a location of the printer head relative to a surface and initiating applying material from the applicator onto the surface. The applicator may be a syringe with a needle. 3D coordinates at which material is to be applied to a surface to form the pattern may be determined and identified based on a relative location of the substrate and the pattern. The pattern may be a speckle dot pattern used in Digital Image Correlation (DIC) material testing and characterization techniques.

Abstract: An inkjet recording device includes a hardware processor. The hardware processor: performs, for respective recording heads of a recorder, setting relevant to adjustment of an amount of ink to be discharged from nozzle groups; based on ink discharge amount information on a distribution of ink discharge amounts that are discharged from the nozzle groups based on image data, performs the setting such that at each joint in the nozzle groups, a difference between representative values of the ink discharge amounts of the nozzle groups satisfies a predetermined continuity condition, and a representative value of the ink discharge amounts of the nozzle groups satisfies a predetermined discharge amount condition; and adjusts at least a part of the setting such that a difference between a maximum value and a minimum value of the ink discharge amounts of the nozzle groups reduces.

Abstract: A high precision printing method taking into consideration the variance in the thickness of a printing target. An ink-jet printing method, including: (i) measuring a distance between a printing target and at least one nozzle; (ii) measuring a flying speed and a flying angle of an ink(a) discharged from the at least one nozzle; (iii) printing a test substrate with an ink to identify a location on which an ink(b) is spotted, and calculating a thickness-related displacement that is a displacement from the location on which the ink is spotted, based on a thickness difference between the printing target and the test substrate from results obtained in Step (i), and the flying speed and the flying angle of the ink(a) obtained in Step (ii); and (iv) discharging an ink(c) from the at least one nozzle to achieve actual printing of the printing target with the ink(c) while correcting the thickness-related displacement.

Abstract: Ink consumption accompanying purging bubbles from the buffer tank is suppressed. An inkjet printer has a buffer tank disposed to an ink path that supplies ink to a printhead. A first channel connects to the buffer tank at the bottom of the ink chamber, and a second channel connects to the top of the ink chamber. To print, the first valve and second valve are open, and ink is supplied from the first channel, into which bubbles do not easily flow. To purge bubbles, the first valve closes and the maintenance unit is driven in a cleaning operation, discharging bubbles with ink from the second channel. The second valve then closes, the maintenance unit is driven to create negative pressure downstream from the second valve, and the second valve then opens in a choke cleaning operation that discharges ink with entrained bubbles at once.
