摘要:
A method of removing hydrogen peroxide from sulfuric acid includes the following steps: First step of pouring the sulfuric acid having 0.1 wt % to 10 wt % of hydrogen peroxide into a vessel. Second step of adding a catalyst containing copper and a copper compound to the vessel to undergo a reaction with the sulfuric acid to remove the hydrogen peroxide from the sulfuric acid, to generate heat, and to generate metal ions in the sulfuric acid. Third step of activating a cooling device to cool the vessel to a predetermined temperature range. Fourth step of adding hydrogen sulfide to the vessel to undergo a reaction with the metal ions to generate metallic sulfide and metal free sulfuric acid. Fifth step of purifying the metallic sulfide and the metal free sulfuric acid to obtain purified metallic sulfide and purified sulfuric acid as products.

A carbon-based catalyst for flue gas desulfurization is brought into contact with a flue gas containing at least SO2 gas, oxygen and water vapor so that the SO2 gas can react with the oxygen and the water vapor to form sulfuric acid which is to be recovered. On a surface of the carbon-based catalyst, iodine, bromine or a compound thereof is added, ion exchanged or supported and a water-repellent treatment is applied. The carbon-based catalyst can also be used as a mercury adsorbent for flue gas treatment for adsorbing and removing metallic mercury from a flue gas containing metallic mercury, SO2 gas, oxygen and water vapor.

A non-chrome, copper-containing catalyst, Cu—Al—O and method of preparing the same are provided wherein the Cu—Al—O catalyst is prepared by the co-precipitation of copper nitrate (Cu(NO3)2) and sodium aluminate (Na2Al2O4) solutions using sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) as a precipitant. The precipitate is filtered, washed to removed excess sodium, and dried. The dried product, to be used in a powder form, is calcined at a preferred temperature of approximately 700° to 900° C. for approximately 1 to 4 hours. The dry powder, to be tableted or extruded, is calcined at a temperature of approximately 400° to 700° C. The activity of the Cu—Al—O catalyst can be promoted in hydrogenolysis applications by the addition of various agents. The Cu—Al—O catalyst can be employed in applications in place of Cu/Cr, or other copper based catalysts.
