Abstract: There is disclosed an electrolyser (10, 20, 50) for operation at supercritical conditions, in which chambers (200, 210, 520) for retaining respective fluid reaction products are separated by a porous wall which permits a flow of electrolyte fluid therethrough and which inhibits a reverse flow of the respective reaction product. A controller is to control flow control equipment to maintain supercritical conditions for the electrolyte fluid. There is also disclosed a method of operating an electrolyser, and methods of manufacturing compound porous electrodes for such electrolysers.

Abstract: An electrochemical device which is a novel leaks container for an electrochemical stack, is suitable for working at high absolute pressures. The only parts designed to work at high pressures are the end heads and the leak container. The internal part, the active part, where the reactions using or producing gas take place is designed to operate at low relative pressures. In this way it is possible to build electrolyzers or fuel cells that work at high pressures without the active part of the same being designed for such high pressures.

Abstract: A method of controlling a hydrogen/oxygen producing system is a method of controlling a hydrogen/oxygen producing system including a water electrolysis apparatus that electrolyzes liquid water by applying current to an anode and a cathode, and a hydrogen gas pressurizing part that pressurizes hydrogen at downstream of the water electrolysis apparatus by applying current to a pressurizing part anode and a pressurizing part cathode. A controller controls current applied to the water electrolysis apparatus and current applied to the hydrogen gas pressurizing part. When the hydrogen/oxygen producing system is stopped, the controller performs first decompression processing such that a decompression speed of the pressurizing part cathode of the hydrogen gas pressurizing part does not exceed a basic decompression speed and performs second decompression processing such that a decompression speed of the anode of the water electrolysis apparatus does not exceed the decompression speed of the pressurizing part cathode.

Abstract: A compression device includes: an electrochemical cell that includes an anode and a cathode that sandwich an electrolyte membrane; a voltage application unit that applies a voltage between the anode and the cathode; and a metal plate that is exposed to compressed hydrogen generated at the cathode and that is resistant to hydrogen embrittlement. The metal plate includes a first terminal connected to the voltage application unit. The first terminal is directly connected to a second terminal that has a lower resistance than the first terminal. The second terminal is directly connected to the voltage application unit, and the first terminal is connected to the voltage application unit via the second terminal.

Abstract: There are provided an electrolyzer gasket, which can accommodate and hold a separator inside an electrolyzer by a simple handling, can more surely prevent leakage of an electrolyte and an electrolytically generated gas from the inside of the electrolyzer, can keep the separator in such a state that the separator is held at a position that is in contact with one of electrodes and is located along the electrode and therefore can suppress damage of the separator and makes it possible to use the separator stably for a long period of time, and an electrolyzer. An electrolyzer gasket including a picture-frame-shaped thin-plate-like frame having a first surface being in contact with an anode metal frame and a second surface being in contact with a cathode metal frame, wherein the gasket has a structure in which a notch having a difference in level of approximately the same thickness as the thickness of the separator, the notch obtained by thinly scraping off, in a uniform thickness, a region including the edge on the anode chamber side or the cathode chamber side, is formed on any one of the first surface and the second surface, and the edge part of the separator is accommodated and held in the notch, and an electrolyzer using the electrolyzer gasket.

Abstract: Large scale exploitation of Solar energy is proposed by using floating devices which use solar energy to produce compressed hydrogen by electrolysis of deep sea water. Natural ocean currents are used to allow the devices to gather solar energy in the form of compressed hydrogen from over a large area with minimum energy transportation cost. The proposal uses a combination of well understood technologies, and a preliminary cost analysis shows that the hydrogen produced in this manner would satisfy the ultimate cost targets for hydrogen production and pave the way for carbon free energy economy.
