Abstract:
The present teachings provide for a catalytic converter for modifying the composition of exhaust gas of an engine. The catalytic converter includes a housing, a substrate body, and a first layer of catalyst material. The housing can define an inlet for receiving the exhaust gas from the engine, a main chamber in fluid communication with the inlet, and an outlet in fluid communication with the main chamber for exhausting the modified exhaust gas. The substrate body can be disposed within the central chamber and can define a plurality of flow channels. The flow channels can provide fluid communication between the inlet and the outlet. The first layer of catalyst material can provide a first section of the flow channels with a first overall wall thickness that is greater than a second overall wall thickness of a second section of the flow channels.
Abstract:
A muffler integrated type gasoline particulate filter includes a filter having first and second surfaces and first channels and second channels alternately arranged, each of the first channels being closed at the second surface and each of the second channels being closed at the first surface, the filter collecting exhaust gas particulates when exhaust gas passes through a wall surface disposed between the first and second channels. The muffler integrated type gasoline particulate filter further includes protruding walls formed on an inner wall surface of each of the first and second channels in a longitudinal direction thereof. The protruding walls reduce noise of the exhaust gas flowing along each of the first and second channels.
Abstract:
A honeycomb catalyst body includes a tubular honeycomb base material having porous partition walls to define and form a plurality of cells extending as through channels of a fluid from one end surface from which the fluid flows in to the other end surface from which the fluid flows out, and a catalyst loaded onto the partition walls. In the honeycomb base material, at least one slit which is open in a side surface of the honeycomb base material is formed, and a width of the slit is from 1.0 to 10.0 mm.

Systems, methods, articles or manufacture and the like can include features relating to integrated muffler and emissions controls for engine exhaust, water-injected internal combustion engine with an asymmetric compression and expansion ratio, controlled combustion durations for HCCI engines, piston shrouding of sleeve valves, low element count bearings, improved ports, and premixing of fuel and exhaust.
Abstract:
A system for treating diesel exhaust is disclosed. The system includes a first filter including layers of filtration material positioned between layers of corrugated metallic foil. The metallic foil defines a honeycomb arrangement of longitudinal passageways from an upstream end to a downstream end and also openings for allowing exhaust to pass between adjacent longitudinal passageways of the metallic foil. The filtration material is positioned such that exhaust between the adjacent longitudinal passageways passes through the filtration material. The metallic foil also includes flow diverting structures to divert flow within the longitudinal passageways through the openings. A second filter is positioned downstream from the first filter. The second filter defines a honeycomb arrangement of longitudinal passageways. The longitudinal passages are selectively plugged adjacent upstream and downstream ends to force flow radially through walls between the longitudinal passages of the second filter.

A first end of the stack is connected to an electrical terminal and a second end is connected to an electrical ground. The stack has a plurality of sheet-metal foils which are in electrical contact with one another and which are at least partially structured and determine, in the direction of the structures, a height of the stack. The stack has at least one curvature with a small radius of curvature and a relatively large radius of curvature. A curvature section including the at least one curvature has at least one zone with increased electrical resistance starting from the small radius of curvature and extending over part of the height of the stack. Abstract:
A system for treating exhaust gasses from an engine is described. The system includes, the exhaust gasses routed from the engine to atmosphere through a helical exhaust passage, the system comprises an exhaust passage that receives an exhaust flow injected with a liquid reductant, the helical exhaust passage including a plurality of exhaust passages that separates the exhaust flow into separated smaller flows, wherein the smaller flows are re-introduced into a common passage and combine to form a single exhaust flow, and wherein the orientation of the plurality of exhaust passages impels the single exhaust flow to exhibit a helical flow pattern.
