    摘要: An engine shutoff valve is provided which includes a valve body having an air passageway in which a disc assembly and a valve seat assembly are located. The disc assembly includes a disc member which is arranged to be rotated and moved toward the valve seat assembly upon the occurrence of an engine runaway condition to close the valve. The valve seat assembly includes an anti-friction ring which is arranged to be engaged by the disc member when the valve is closed. The anti-friction ring is rotatable with respect to the valve body and the disc member to prevent the disc member from sticking thereto after closure of the valve, whereupon the valve can be readily reopened.

    摘要: A linear actuator includes a stator assembly and a rotor assembly operatively associated with the stator assembly and mounted for rotation with respect to the stator assembly. A shaft is restricted from rotation and is associated with the rotor assembly such that rotation of the rotor assembly causes linear movement of the shaft. A capnut is associated with a distal end of the shaft for movement therewith. A shroud is coupled to the stator assembly and substantially surrounds the capnut. The shroud includes a valve seat, and an inlet communicating with an outlet through a throttle opening adjacent to the valve seat. The shaft and associated capnut are constructed and arranged to move relative to the valve seat to control air flow between the inlet and the outlet.

    摘要: An Otto cycle internal combustion engine (10) provided with a combustion chamber (14) and an inlet (18) and an outlet (20) with respective valves (24 and 26), and a suction passage (29) leading to the said at least one inlet (18) to conduct the flow of fluid material thereto. The engine (10) further comprises a control valve (28) arranged upstream of the inlet valve (24) and being operable to change between a condition in which it opens the suction passage (29) and a condition in which it closes the suction passage (29). An engine operating position sensor (90) provides signals indicative of the operating position of the engine (10). There is also an engine power control (92). A variable intermediate position control signal generator (95), generates control signals at times respectively between the beginning and the end of each of a succession of inlet valve opening periods of the engine cycle. It is connected to receive signals from the engine operating position sensor (90) and the engine power control (92) and to send the control signals to the control valve (28) in such a manner that in between an opening of the inlet valve (24) and the immediately following closure thereof there is a period in which the suction passage (29) is open and a period in which it is closed, the period for which it is open being in dependence upon the engine power control (92) output. The invention extends to a method of operating such an engine (10).

In one arrangement, the air intake assembly includes a stationary funnel and a movable funnel positioned on the inlet side of the fixed funnel and selectively cooperates with the stationary funnel to deliver air to the intake port of the engine. A seal member creates at least a substantial seal between the fixed funnel and the movable funnel when the funnels are in cooperation with one another. A retention mechanism inhibits the seal member from disengaging with the funnel onto which the seal member is positioned. In one arrangement, the movable funnel is formed with one or more projections and the seal member is formed with one or more recesses that accommodate the projections. The projection may be a flange or a boss, among other possibilities, and the recess is configured to accommodate the specific projection.

There is also an actuator coupled to the one-way valve for biasing the one-way valve in a closed position. This one-way air intake valve is closed after the internal combustion engine has stopped operating to prevent emissions of evaporated hydrocarbons from the engine through the air induction system. The valve can also be moved into a fail-safe position if the actuator fails but the engine is operating.
