    摘要: An internally cooled internal combustion piston engine and method of operating a piston engine is provided, with the combination of liquid water injection, higher compression ratios than conventional engines, and leaner air fuel mixtures than conventional engines. The effective compression ratio of the engines herein is greater than 13:1. The engines may employ gasoline or natural gas and use spark ignition, or the engines may employ a diesel-type fuel and use compression ignition. The liquid water injection provides internal cooling, reducing or eliminating the heat rejection to the radiator, reduces engine knock, and reduces NOx emissions. The method of engine operation using internal cooling with liquid water injection, high compression ratio and lean air fuel mixture allow for more complete and efficient combustion and therefore better thermal efficiency as compared to conventional engines.

    摘要: Device, systems and methods for introducing water into the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, incorporating an injector and a heater, are shown and described. The injector is configured to inject water at a pulse rate and frequency controlled by various engine performance readings, and the heater configured to convert the water into steam on demand, and to route the steam into the air stream flowing toward the combustion cylinder. In certain embodiments, the heater is positioned to provide steam to the cylinder before the temperature of the steam changes significantly. In other embodiments, the heater is configured to convert to steam a flow of water equal to or less than the amount of fuel burned by the engine during the same time period.

    摘要: A gaseous fuel-enriching subsystem for an internal combustion engine includes a supplemental intake conduit to a an intake manifold internal combustion engine. Such supplemental input is provided with numerus apertures therein. An exhaust gas conduit from the internal combustion engine annularly surrounds the intake conduit permitting fuel values from exhaust in the exhaust conduit to enter the supplemental intake conduit through such apertures. A water supply input to the supplemental intake conduit, at a end opposite to the location of the manifold, provides a further fuel input to the supplemental intake conduit in that water from the water supply is evaporated and then hydrolyzed, separating the water into its chemical constituents of hydrogen and oxygen, thusly producing an enriched gaseous fuel mixture with the recycled exhaust gas which is fed to the manifold.

    摘要: A fuel inlet system (12) for an internal combustion engine (10) comprises a heat exchanger (22), heated by engine exhaust gases, to preheat air being supplied to a carburetor (14). The air is introduced into the carburetor (14) at a temperature of between about 375.degree. to 400.degree. F. The carburetor (14) has an annular heating chamber (122) in which the heated air is circulated. A fuel inlet conduit (63) is in thermal contact with the heated air in the heating chamber (122) to preheat the fuel. The air and fuel is mixed in two stages, the first being during travel along a conduit (144) and the second in a mixing chamber (170) in the carburetor (14). The carburetor (14) includes a valve (148) for restricting the amount of air flowing to the mixing chamber (170). The fuel inlet system (12) further comprises means (20) for adding water to the air/fuel mixture.
