An agricultural vehicle includes a chassis and an engine, transmission and operator station which are each carried by the chassis. The engine has a maximum operating speed. The transmission includes a continuously variable output. A power/economy switch which is positioned within the operator station provides a first output signal indicative of a power mode and a second output signal indicative of an economy mode. A controller is coupled with each of the engine, the transmission and the power/economy switch. The controller receives the second output signal from the power/economy switch and controls each of the engine and the transmission to be in an economy mode, whereby an operating speed of the engine is limited to a reduced maximum speed which is below the maximum operating speed, and the continuously variable output of the transmission is increased to offset for the reduction in engine operating speed.

A processor-based device supports performance optimization with use of an adaptive digital element. The adaptive digital element generates probability data corresponding to a probability of a performance parameter of the processor-based device. The probability data is repeatedly compared to input data corresponding to the performance parameter and is adapted to match the input data. After a predetermined number of samples, a probability value corresponding to the probability data and stored in a counter of the adaptive digital element converges to a good estimated probability of the performance parameter. The probability value is then detected and processed, and the processor-based device is adapted in accordance with the probability value. A processor of the processor-based device also can adapt system operation when the probability value reaches a predetermined trigger value. One advantage of this overall technique is that it essentially eliminates any prospect of counter overflow and associated interrupt processing. Also, the device can accommodate multiple performance parameters by selecting a particular performance parameter for measurement by the adaptive digital element.

The first RV has a first indefinite value at a first definite probability and includes a polynomial of one or more atomic random variables (ARVS) that includes the first ARV. The method includes executing a computer instruction that includes a mathematical operation involving the first RV as a basic data type and produces a second RV having a second indefinite value at a second definite probability, represents a result distribution, and tracks a response to the one or more ARVS.
