Abstract:
A system for forming a coating on a substrate is provided. The system includes a first mix having a cement, a filler, a defoamer, a cement retarder, a dispersing agent, or any combination thereof. The system additionally includes a second mix having a fatty acid derivative, a synthetic resin, one or more organosilicon compounds, a pigment, a thickener, or any combination thereof. A coating composition is formed by mixing the first and second mix together. Lastly, the system includes a spraying apparatus that applies a wet film to the substrate wherein the cured coating does not yield to wet-rubs and does not stain (effloresce) with cold distilled water.

Abstract:
The invention provides for the use of dry building materials comprising one or more polymers in the form of water-redispersible powders, and optionally mineral binders, optionally fillers and optionally additives, for the surface treatment of cementitious substrates that are as yet not fully set.
Abstract:
A system for self-repairing matrices such as concrete or cementitous matrices, polymeric matrices, and/or fibrous matrices, including laminates thereof. The system includes repair agents retained in and/or on vessels, such as hollow fibers, within the matrix. Upon impact, the vessel rupture, releasing the chemicals. For multi-layer laminates, the systems provides a total dynamic energetic circulation system that functions as an in situ fluidic system in at least one layer or area. The energy from the impact ruptures the vessels to release the chemical(s), and mixes the chemical(s) and pushes the chemical(s) and/or resulting compound through the matrix. The repair agents can withstand high temperatures, such as the heat of processing of many laminates, e.g., 250-350° F.
Abstract:
It is disclosed a cement paint comprising a pigmenting substance (2), a cement binder (6) and a fluidizing liquid (4) and further comprising: a calcareous aggregate (7) including calcareous granules of calcium carbonate CaCO3 having maximum sizes smaller than 100 microns, a vitreous aggregate (8) including vitreous granules having maximum sizes smaller than 100 microns, and a photocatalyst (9) adapted to oxidize polluting substances in the presence of light and air.
Abstract:
A process is described for preparing a water-soluble sulphonated dispersant from a petroleum hydrocracking residue comprising: contacting a petroleum hydrocracking residue boiling above 524.degree. C. with concentrated sulphuric acid, oleum or sulphur trioxide to form a sulphonated mixture containing water soluble and water insoluble products, and separating the water soluble sulphonated product from the mixture. The mixture of water soluble and water insoluble sulphonated products is neutralized with alkali and evaporated to dryness, after which the dried mixture is extracted with alcohol to leave a water soluble product. The product can be used as a water reducer or superplasticizer in concrete.

Abstract:
The invention provides a composition having a bulk density of 0.8 g/cm3 or less comprising (a) 25-65 weight % of an inorganic binder comprising (i) 83 to 100 weight % of calcium aluminate cement, (ii) 0 to 14 weight % of calcium sulphate, (iii) 0 to 9 weight % of portland cement wherein the weight % of (i), (ii), (iii) is based on the sum of (i)+(ii)+(iii), (b) 0.5-15 weight % of one or more organic polymers, (c) 30-75 weight % of one or more inorganic fillers wherein the bulk density of the fillers is less than 0.5 g/cm3, wherein weight % is calculated on the total weight of all the non-volatile components in the composition.
Abstract:
New and useful cementitious-based products, such as mortar, grout, backerboard and stucco, are all comprised of Portland cement as a common ingredient combined with optional fillers and additives with the addition of an effective antimicrobial agent. In a humid, warm and a poorly circulating air environment, mildew from a fungus, as well as the growth of other microbes will flourish. With the addition of Copper-8-quinolinolate as a fungicide to the cementitious-based mix, a zone of antibiosis is created to inhibit the growth of these organisms for the duration of the products use.
Abstract:
A liquid alkali metal silicate composition comprises water, an alkali metal, e.g., sodium silicate, glyoxal, optionally a Group I-III metal salt, e.g., calcium chloride, and hydrogen peroxide, and from 0.5 to 2.0 moles of a polyhydroxy compound per mole of glyoxal used. The specific polyols are mannitol, glycerol and sucrose. This composition is easily pumpable and injectable at a temperature of 100.degree. F. or higher.
