Abstract:
A fastener stringer includes a row of elements on which cured coating film is formed at sites where it is difficult to be coated by a roll coating method, preferably over the entire exposed surface, without incorporating any conductive wire in a fastener tape. A fastener stringer includes a row of elements and a fastener tape, at least one side edge of the fastener tape having insulation properties, the row of the elements being attached to the one side edge of the fastener tape, wherein each element includes a pair of leg portions and a head portion, the head portion having an engaging region for engaging with an opposing element when constructing a fastener chain, and wherein cured coating film is formed at least at a center portion in a front and back direction of the fastener tape on an end surface of the head portions.
Abstract:
A method for manufacturing a composite component of a timepiece or of a jewelry part, the composite component including a porous ceramic part and a metallic material filling the pores of the ceramic part, including providing a porous ceramic preform of the component, providing a metallic material, heating the metallic material to a temperature higher than the melting point of the metallic material, filling the pores of the ceramic preform with the molten metallic material, cooling the metallic material and the ceramic preform to obtain a solidified metallic material in the pores of the ceramic preform, and applying finishing treatments to obtain the composite component, wherein the porous ceramic preform consists essentially of a material selected from the group consisting of Si3N4, SiO2 and mixtures thereof, and the metallic material is gold, platinum, palladium metals or alloys of these metals.

Abstract:
A decorative coating and a method for forming a decorative coating on a gemstone to change the natural visual appearance of the gemstone. The decorative coating comprises an optically absorbing film. Depositing the absorbing film on the substrate comprises the alternating steps of introducing a first precursor to the reaction space such that at least a portion of the first precursor gets adsorbed onto the surface of the substrate, and subsequently purging the reaction space, and introducing a second precursor to the reaction space such that at least a portion of the second precursor reacts with the portion of the first precursor adsorbed onto the surface of the substrate to form a conformal absorbing film on the substrate comprising the gemstone, and subsequently purging the reaction space. The material of the absorbing film is selected from the group of oxides, carbides, noble metals or a mixture thereof.
Abstract:
An improved jewelry article with a brilliant, preferably white, coating securely bonded to a substrate. The coating comprises predominantly chromium and, where a white finish is desired, a platinum group metal, preferably platinum. The substrate comprises predominantly tungsten carbide and a substantial amount of metal, preferably nickel. The coating is applied to the substrate using vapor deposition, such as physical vapor deposition. The metal and especially nickel will facilitate adhesion between the chromium in the coating and the substrate. The vapor deposition will further provide for superior adhesion as compared to traditional plating techniques. The improved jewelry article will maintain the brilliant, preferably white, finish of the coating due to the hard scratch resistant predominantly chromium coating and the improved adhesion between the coating and substrate.
Abstract:
An article of jewelry supports a plurality of primary stones in a linear mounting array and which is bordered on both sides by accent stones. The girdles of the primary stones and of the accent stones are positioned close to each other with the accent stone girdles being above the primary stone girdles. A method of making the article of jewelry includes the use of a lost wax casting process followed by hand-setting of the accent stones and an application of a highly reflective coating, such as rhodium to surfaces that are adjacent the areas of congruence of the primary and accent stones. The resultant piece of jewelry presents the appearance of floating or unsupported primary stones.
Abstract:
A gold plated jewelry article that has an antique, ancient or aged appearance and methods of making the same. The method includes providing a matte finish on an engravable article having a desired shape and being made of a metal or alloy that is less precious than gold; plating all visible surfaces of the engravable article with a thin layer of gold; and engraving characters on at least one surface of the engravable article. During use, the gold plated jewelry article wears or deteriorates to exhibit the antique, ancient or aged appearance.
Abstract:
The invention provides a decorative object comprising a transparent or translucent substrate having a body and at least one surface bearing a thin film coating. The coating imparts in the substrate a body color that appears substantially constant at different angles of observation. This body color is imparted in the substrate at least in part by absorption of visible radiation that is transmitted through said coating. The coating includes a high absorption layer comprising film that is highly absorptive of visible radiation. Also provided are methods of coating gems and other decorative objects, as well as methods of heat treating coated gems and other decorative objects.
