    摘要: A novel, storage-stable, free-flowing, solid product consisting essentially of an alkyl benzene sulphonic acid having 1 to 4 aliphatic carbon atoms and from 7 to 11% water based on the weight of the product, said alkyl benzene sulphonic acid comprising at least 90% by weight of a single isomer based on the total weight of organic material in the product, is prepared by drying a storage-unstable, solid alkyl benzene sulphonic acid having more than 11% by weight water, said drying being effected at sub atmospheric pressure and at a temperature below the softening point of the product.

    摘要: The alkylsulphate pastes disclosed can be prepared by sulphonating mixtures containing a)50-90% by weight of at least one aliphatic primary alcohol with 6-22 carbon atoms and b)1-50% by weight of at least one unsaturated fatty acid glyceride ester derived from fatty acids having 16-22 carbon atoms and having one, two or three double bonds, with gaseous sulphur trioxide and subsequently neutralizing and hydrolysing the reaction products with aqueous bases in such a way that pastes with solids contents of 30-80% by weight are obtained.

    摘要: A water cooling panel forms a part of or substitute for the wall of a metallurgical furnace, such as an electric arc furnace. The panel can be formed alternately as a tube type cooler formed of parallel pipes connected at its ends in headers, with the latter having internal baffles to define a serpentine path, or as a box type cooler formed of steel plates or sheet and having internal baffle plates defining a serpentine path for the cooling fluid. In either case, fluid orificies are provided to permit a minor amount of flow through the baffles or baffle plates where there is a direction change in the serpentine flow path. This serves to prevent stagnation, and prevent the problems of hot spots and steam bubbles where there is a change of direction in the cooling flow. Projections welded along the furnace-facing side of the panel permit the panel to be covered with a layer of refractory material or solidified slag.

    摘要: It is known to prepare olefin sulphonates by neutralizing olefin sulphonation products with dilute aqueous bases. This invention provides a method of preparing more concentrated solutions of certain olefin sulphonates by determining the position of the viscosity minimum which occurs at concentrations above the critical limit where gel formation is normally observed and which corresponds to the formation of a `G` phase, and reacting the olefin sulphonation product with the base in the presence of sufficient water to provide a product having a concentration corresponding substantially to this minimum.
