摘要:
An article is authenticated by providing a magnetic security mark in the form of an optically-passive randomly-generated nanoscale magnetic pattern. The pattern is pre-imaged and this reference image is uploaded to a secure database along with an identifier for the article such as a serial number. A user of the article verifies its authenticity by scanning it magnetically to obtain a scanned image of the magnetic pattern. The serial number is used to retrieve the previously uploaded reference image which is compared to the scanned image. If the images match, the article's authenticity is confirmed. A single article may have multiple magnetic security marks, each unique, placed at predetermined, non-uniform locations. The magnetic patterns are generated using thin film deposition of yttrium iron garnet. In one embodiment the article is a physical key having additional security features, such as mechanical features and a radio-frequency identification chip.

Systems and methods wherein one or more processing operations on an identification document occur after a radiation curable material is applied to a surface of the identification document but before the radiation curable material is fully cured. The one or more processing operations can occur before any curing of the radiation curable material takes place. Alternatively, the one or more processing operations can occur after the radiation curable material has been partially cured, and before the radiation curable material is fully or completely cured.

A wireless financial transaction instrument, such as a card, has a magnetic stripe, a display, and an on-board power supply, such as a battery, and is usable with a dual capture point of sale terminal. Information is received by such a terminal from the card wirelessly, and also from the magnetic stripe, and the data received contactlessly is preferably used to verify that read from the stripe. The display can display the account number on command, or to display a current balance, or amount of credit remaining, or any combination of these items of information.

A data storage card having magnetic recording material and printed bar-codes spaced apart on its surface and optional embedded Integrated Circuit and or RFID device imbedded in body of the card. The card is wallet-size and preferably the strips run parallel to the lengthwise dimension of the card and the barcodes printed on the free space not occupied by the magnetic recording material. The back side of the data storage card includes means to attach or imbed additional data storage means including magnetic recording strips, attachable printed bar-code, Integrated Circuits, electronic memory and RFID devices.

A merchandise security tag device for use in a merchandise monitoring system is provided. The merchandise security tag device may be configured to display at least one predetermined optical validation image in response to a signal received from a validation scanning process of the merchandise monitoring system. The validation scanning process may verify that the article of merchandise has been paid for by the customer. The optical validation image may be within the visible spectrum and may be verified by a store employee.

When an information signal recorded in a magnetic card is updated by an information recording and updating apparatus, a spectrum spread signal corresponding to the updated information signal is generated and it is then recorded superimposed on to the information recorded previously in the magnetic card without erasing the old information. Since the information is spectrum spread, alteration is difficult. Moreover, the magnetic card may be discriminated whether it may be used or not by considering the old information recorded in the magnetic card when it is used.

A method and apparatus for recording magnetic information on traveler's checks. The invention is directed to a method of making it easier to validate traveler's checks and to identify stolen or counterfeit traveler's checks. The method utilizes an information carrying medium, such as a magnetic "stripe," on the surface of, or embedded into, the traveler's check itself. The information carrying medium is encoded with the unique identifying code of the check. Further, a database object corresponding to the unique identifying code is stored along with check status information in a central database. At the time of encashment, the traveler's check is run through a swipe-style reader, and the unique identifying code is sent to a central database for verification. The central database returns an indication to the merchant as to whether the traveler's check is valid.

Elongated magnetic elements can be inserted into items to provide readable magnetic patterns which provide reproducible or unique signal patterns to identify or authenticate the items. Magnetic fibers may be distributed within items or magnetic strips to provide reproducible patterns when read. The patterns are stable because of the relatively large size of the magnetic elements as compared to conventional patterns of particles in recordable media. Oriented patterns of filaments may also be inserted into transactional items such as credit cards, checks and the like to provide identification (antiforgery) security to the item.

A method and apparatus is disclosed for determining the remanent noise in a magnetic medium by DC saturation of a region thereof and measurement of the remaining DC magnetization. Conventional recording transducers may be used to determine the remanent noise. Upon determination, the remanent noise may then be compensated for in either or both of the record and playback modes for all varieties of magnetic media including, videotapes, cassette tapes, etc.
