Abstract:
The method for controlling the operation of an internal combustion engine comprises at least two operating modes. In a first operating mode, the intake valve (3) is closed at a first predetermined crank angle, in accordance with the Miller cycle, before the piston (2) reaches bottom dead center during the intake stroke for reducing pressure in the cylinder (1), and fuel is injected using first fuel injection means (9a) optimized for large amounts of fuel. In a second operating mode the intake valve (3) is closed at a second predetermined crank angle, in accordance with conventional intake valve closing timing, after or slightly before the piston (2) has passed bottom dead center, and fuel is injected using second fuel injection means (9b) optimized for small amounts of fuel. The invention also concerns an internal combustion engine.
Abstract:
The invention enables a SCR unit to run more efficiently. The inventive arrangement comprises an engine control unit (13), a SCR unit(12)and a pilot fuel injectors (10). The engine control unit is connected with the pilot fuel injector for controlling pilot fuel injection. Further, the arrangement comprises a supercharged air sensor(14) that is connected with the engine control unit. The engine control unit comprises an adjustment unit that is arranged to receive supercharged air reference data signals and signals from the charged air sensor(14), and also to form an adjustment signal. The adjustment signal is arranged to adjust the control of the pilot fuel injector.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method of operating an internal combustion engine by combusting gaseous fuel comprising the steps of feeding gaseous fuel and combustion air to the combustion chamber of the engine, compressing the mixture of the combustion air and the gaseous fuel in the combustion chamber, feeding the mixture of the combustion air and the gaseous fuel from the combustion chamber to a first and a second pre-chamber arranged in flow communication with the combustion chamber, igniting the mixture of the combustion air and the gaseous fuel in the first pre-chamber at a first moment, and igniting said mixture in the second pre-chamber at a second moment, after the first moment, ignition being accomplished by means of injecting liquid fuel into a pre-chamber and igniting the liquid fuel by compression ignition.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a pre-chamber arrangement for a cylinder (1) of an internal combustion engine fitted for premixed combustion (Otto cycle), the pre- chamber arrangement including a first chamber (7) for mixing and igniting of the fuel and a second chamber (8) of substantially smaller volume for communication between the first chamber (7) and the main combustion chamber (4) of the cylinder (1), the first chamber (7) being provided with pilot injection means (9) and having a chamber top substantially opposite to the second chamber (8). The first chamber (7) has substantially oval shape with curved walls between the chamber top and the second chamber (8). The second chamber (8) is asymmetrically positioned with regard to the first chamber (7) so as to provide a tumble flow motion (A) in the first chamber (7) for the gaseous fuel pressed from the main combustion chamber (4) and guided by curved wall of the first chamber (7) towards and past the fuel of pilot injection means (9) to be ignited.
