摘要:
Included herein are constructional techniques for forming thermoplastic composite panels into differently-shaped finished goods. The techniques described are especially useful in forming shaped goods having a complex core. An exemplary composite panel construction produced from a flat panel comprising a core and first and second thermoplastic cover layers bonded to the core, the composite panel construction made by a method of manufacture comprises: cutting core material from an interior surface of at least one of the cover layers while maintaining a bonded section between the core and the cover layers; heat setting a portion of the first cover layer in a shape following at least a portion of the cut surface of the core; and bonding a portion of the second cover layer to a portion of the first cover layer to at least partially close-off the construction.

A composite structure (12) that includes a first layer that includes a membrane (16) having a first melting point and a plurality of structural elements and a second layer that includes a thermoplastic material (32) having a second melting point that is lower than the first melting point, wherein at least a portion of the thermoplastic material (34) is at least one partially melted to flow around at least one structural element of the plurality of structural elements of the membrane (16) prior to resolidification to attach the first layer (16) to the second layer (32). The membrane (16) can be oleophobic or oleophilic and preferably includes expanded polytetrafluoroethylene. The thermoplastic material (32) can be of virtually any type and can be either hydrophobic or hydrophilic.

The invention relates to a method and a device for producing continuous belts from plastic films for a transfer belt in an electrographic printer or copier by welding the ends of a plastic film (10). According to said method, the ends of the plastic film (10) are abutted on their front faces, the plastic film (10) is held under pressure in the region of its ends and the plastic film (10) is heated by radiation to the temperature required for welding said ends.

An intermediate (1) for glueing coated sheets of textiles having a silicon-based polymer layer of coating, provided in the form of a strip including a non-cross-linked silicon elastomer fraction present on at least one of the outer surfaces of the strip. According to the invention, the glueing intermediate includes elements which dissipate calorific energy immersed in the mass of non-cross-linked silicon elastomer.

A semi-rigid heated element assembly and method of manufacturing semi-rigid heated element assemblies is provided. A heated element assembly includes a first thermoplastic sheet (105), a second thermoplastic sheet (110), and a resistance heating element (400) laminated between the first and second thermoplastic sheets. The resistance heating element (400) includes a supporting substrate (405) having a first surface thereon and an electrical resistance heating material (410) forming a predetermined circuit path (415) having a pair of terminal end portions (412). The circuit path (415) continues onto at least one flap portion (420) that is capable of rotating about a first axis of rotation (425). The reformable continuous element structure (500) may be formed into a final element assembly configuration (600) whereby at least the flap portion (420) is rotated along its axis of rotation (425) to provide resistance heating in at least two planes.

Date Jul. 31, 1997A gas-tight tube out of composite cardboard for cans is formed by welding the polymer coatings of neighboring layers, a linearly-focused halogen light source being employed. A marginal strip of the composite material is heated from the side of the material opposite to that having the polymer coating to be melted and welded. In addition, a layer which absorbs and transforms the halogen light into heat can be provided in the area of the marginal strip on the side thereof on which the halogen light is focused. An apparatus for carrying out the process and suitable composite materials are described.

A gas-tight tube out of composite cardboard for cans is formed by welding the polymer coatings of neighboring layers, a linearly-focused halogen light source (26) being employed. In addition, a layer (27) which absorbs and transforms the halogen light into heat can be provided in the area of the later welding seam. Furthermore, devices for carrying out the process and suitable composite materials are described.

When a tubular body containing a synthetic resin material of a high gas-barrier quality is heated and fused, heat may decompose and foam the material. A projecting end portion (3) of an end (2) of a tubular body (1) is heated and fused, and is compressed and diminished in volume to be compression molded into a seal portion (5) of a desired shape whereby the seal portion (5) is increased in density and formed into a desired shape.
