The invention relates to a method for manufacturing carpet tiles wherein each carpet tile is provided on its backing with an anti-slip layer extending over practically the whole tile and comprising an adhesive. After applying of the anti-slip layer the tiles can be adhered releasably to each other and then packed. The invention further relates to a carpet tile having on its backing an anti-slip layer as manufactured by this method. The anti-slip layer can comprise an adhesive which is chosen such that the adhesive power between the anti-slip layer and the backing of the tile is greater than between the anti-slip layer and a surface for covering with the tile. Finally, the invention also relates to a packaging filled with at least two such carpet tiles.

This invention relates to a flooring system comprised of a plurality of washable, multi-component floor mats. The floor mats contain a textile component and a base component. The textile component and the base component are attached to one another by a variety of mechanisms, including magnetic attraction. The magnetic attraction is provided by incorporation of magnetic particles in both the textile and base components. The textile component is designed to be soiled, washed, and re-used, thereby providing ideal end-use applications in areas such as building entryways.

Cushion backed carpet tiles and carpet tile installations which can be installed without adhesives are described. The carpet tiles are manufactured according to rigid specifications in order that no corner of any of the individual tiles is 1/16" or greater off the floor due to curl, and no corner on the tile has cup of greater than 3/16". In this way, a substantially to entirely adhesive-free carpet tile installation can be achieved, with the installation being capable of withstanding the rigors of a variety of typical types of wear, such as rolling traffic, etc., without shifting or snowplowing over adjacent tiles.

A dimensionally stable floor covering comprises a tufted textile substrate and a reinforcement layer attached to the textile substrate. The reinforcement layer includes an adhesive backing compound and reinforcement fibers surrounded by the adhesive backing. The fibers may form a continuous layer on the back side of the floor covering or may be dispersed within the adhesive backing compound. The adhesive backing compound may be hot water-soluble to facilitate recycling of the floor covering. The floor covering may optionally include additional backing layers (including cushions) and may be used as a broadloom carpet, a carpet tile, or other modular floor covering products. Methods of manufacturing, installing, and recycling the present floor coverings are also provided.

A composite floor covering having an upper layer (1) of a decorative fabric, a dimensionally stabilizing intermediate layer (3), and an optional lower cushioning layer (5) has at least the upper surface of the decorative fabric coated with a protective polymeric coating in a manner such that the hand of the decorative fabric layer is substantially retained. The materials of the fabric layer, stabilizing layer, and cushioning layer (if provided) as well as the form of attachment therebetween, cooperate to render the floor covering substantially impervious to liquid.
