Abstract:
A method and apparatus for testing the effectiveness of a building air barrier, or part thereof, whereby an identification of any air leakage therethrough is provided. A soap solution (or other solution having a similar bubbling characteristic) is applied to a selected air barrier test area. An open-ended flask is positioned over the test area and a centrifugal (or standard) fan is activated at the head of the flask to create an air pressure differential across the air barrier. In the presence of the air pressure differential the soap solution will bubble if there is an air leakage in the air barrier within the test area and, therefore, the existence or non-existence of bubbles in this area identifies whether or not there is an air leakage (i.e. break) in the air barrier in that area.

The hand truck foot hook may comprise a retaining strap and a hook. The hand truck foot hook may be adapted to pull the bottom of a hand truck out from under a load using a foot of a user. The retaining strap may detachably couple to a shoe worn on the foot of the user. The hook may be coupled to the retaining strap such that the hook is accessible on the top of the foot. The hook may removably engage the bottom of the hand truck such that the bottom of the hand truck is pulled back when the shoe is pulled back. As a non-limiting example, the hook may engage an axle of the hand truck.

The present invention provides methods for improving gut health. In particular, the invention provides methods for improving gut health by improving the digestibility of dietary proteins, decreasing the flow of protein to the lower gastrointestinal tract, and/or decreasing the levels of Clostridium bacteria the upper intestinal tract of a subject. The methods comprise administering to the subject a supplement consisting essentially of at least one protease.

Many Gram-negative pathogens assemble adhesive pili structures on their surfaces that allow them to colonize host tissues and cause disease. The present invention relates to novel compounds that mimic a chaperone G1 beta-strand or an amino terminal motif of a pilus subunit. The present invention also relates to the complex formed from the binding of such mimic compounds to the hydrophobic groove of a pilus subunit. Competitively interacting with the binding site of pili subunits will negatively affect the chaperone/usher pathway, which is one molecular mechanism by which Gram-negative bacteria assemble adhesive pili structures, and thus prevent or inhibit pilus assembly.
