    摘要: Graft copolymers having cationic units pendant to the backbone chain are disclosed. These polymers are prepared by reacting a polymer containing halogenated para-methylstyrene units in the chain, e.g., a brominated copolymer of isobutylene and para-methylstyrene, with an anionically polymerized polymer made using an organolithium initiator compound having the formula R1 R2 Z R3—Li where R1 and R2 are alkyl radicals, R3 is a direct link or an organic radical and Z is nitrogen or phosphorous. Reaction of the anionically polymerized polymer having an R1 R2 Z R3— end group with the halogenated polymer leads to graft polymers coupled by a quaternary ammonium or phosphonium groups.

    摘要: The invention provides for curable compositions containing a halogenated copolymer of a C.sub.4 to C.sub.7 isomonoolefin, e.g., isobutylene and a para-alkylstyrene, e.g., para-methylstyrene, and further containing an effective amount of a metal salt, e.g. zinc, of an unsaturated carboxylic acid, e.g. methacrylic acid, as a curing agent. The composition also contains an organic peroxide as a co-curative and one or a mixture of saturated polymer blend components which are co-curable with the halogenated copolymer. The curable composition may further comprise EPDM.

    摘要: There is provided a method of introducing functionality into a copolymer of an isoolefin and an alkylstyrene at the alkylbenzyl carbon atom comprising the steps of: forming a solution of said copolymer in a hydrocarbon solvent; adding to said polymer solution an alkali metal Cs, K, Na alkoxide and an alkyl lithium compound to form a superbase with the polymer solution; and adding an electrophile to said base polymer solution also provided are the metalated copolymers and the functionalized derivative therefrom.
