In an optical recording disk wherein a resin layer cured with ultraviolet radiation is provided on a surface of a transparent substrate, the present invention consists in that a material having a heat distortion temperature of at least 65.degree. C. is employed for the ultraviolet-cured resin layer. The appearance of wrinkles on a UV-cured resin surface is suppressed, whereby an optical recording disk of high carrier-to-noise ratio and long lifetime can be provided.

The recorded domains are read out by a reproducing spot having a lower energy than the recording spot and a high resolution power along the track. A recording member having a predetermined substrate, and a thin film which is formed on the substrate and which is formed with recesses or pits for recording information when irradiated with a working beam, characterized in that said thin film is formed of an inorganic material which contains at least arsenic, selenium and tellurium, and that a distribution of either of said Se and said Te decreases from a part near the surface of said thin film towards a central part thereof, while a distribution of said As increases from a part near the surface towards said central part, is disclosed. This recording member can afford a high signal-to-noise ratio and a long lifetime. It is preferable that the distribution of said Se decreases so as to be at least 50 atomic-% in terms of the content of said Se in a part being the closest to the surface of said thin film and to be at most 40 atomic-% in terms of the average content of said Se over the whole thin film, and that the distribution of said As increases so as to be at most 15 atomic-% in terms of the content of said As in the closest part and to be 5 to 35 atomic-% in terms of the average content of said As in said whole thin film. The Se-Te-As-based material may well be doped with at least one element selected from the group consisting of Ge, S, Tl, Sn, Pb, In and Ta, within a range of 2 to 15 atomic-%.

A magneto-optical recording medium comprises in combination: a magneto-optical recording layer capable of writing or erasing information by a laser beam and an external magnetic field and of reading the information by a Kerr effect; and a substrate having the magneto-optical recording layer formed thereon. The magneto-optical recording layer has at least two layers, including a first magneto-optical recording layer and a second magneto-optical recording layer which are magnetically coupled together. The first magneto-optical recording layer is a layer providing a greater magneto-optical effect in a short light wavelength range than the second magneto-optical recording layer though that having less perpendicular magnetic energy than this, as is provided on an irradiation side of the laser beam. It provides advantages in both the magneto-optical effect and perpendicular anisotropy in consideration of the thicknesses or compositions of the first and second magneto-optical recording layers.

The magnetoresistance effect element is of a multilayered structure having at least magnetic layers and an intermediate layer of an insulating material, a semiconductor or an antiferromagnetic material against the magnetic layers, and the magnetoresistance effect element has terminals formed at least on the opposite magnetic layers, respectively, so that a current flows in the intermediate layer. The film surfaces of all the magnetic layers constituting the magnetoresistance effect element are opposed substantially at right angles to the recording surface of a magnetic recording medium. Therefore, the area of the magnetic layers facing the recording surface of the magnetic recording medium can be extremely reduced, and thus the magnetic field from a very narrow region of the high-density recorded magnetic recording medium can be detected by the current which has a tunneling characteristic and passes through the intermediate layer.
