Abstract:
A prosthetic system that includes a prosthetic implant and a support structure secured to an inner surface of a cavity of a bone is disclosed. The support structure defines a channel that extends through the length of the support structure. The prosthetic implant is received in the channel, and a portion of the prosthetic implant is secured to an inner surface of the support structure by an adhesive. The support structure may comprise a pair of partially hemispherical components arranged in spaced apart relationship thereby defining the channel between the pair of components.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method of preparation of a water based epoxy resin curing agent in dispersion form which is formed by combining an amine-functional dispersion (A) with an amine-functional curing agent (B). The invention also relates to the curing agent obtained from said method, its use for curing two component water based epoxy systems, compositions obtained from such curing and various uses of the compositions obtained.

Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for the recovery of a phytolipid composition from a vegetable oil by-product. The phytolipid composition produced comprises squalene, phytosterols, mixed tocopherols and tocotrieneols, and vegetable wax and is useful as an emollient. The phytochemical composition may be applied directly to the skin to provide emolliency. Alternatively, the phytolipid composition may be formulated in various aqueous or anhydrous cosmetic compositions such as creams, lotions, gels, ointments, lip balms, sticks, or pencils for treatment of the skin and lips. The phytolipid composition also may be incorporated into foods, beverages, and nutraceuticals to provide health benefits.
Abstract:
A composition suitable for making a fiber or a film includes a biocompatible primary polymer matrix which forms a continuous phase of the composition and an active agent forming a substantially discontinuous phase of the composition. The biocompatible primary polymeric matrix has a glass transition temperature of less than about 100° C. and is impermeable to the active agent. A process for making an article, such as a fiber or a film, includes the steps of providing a polymer blend comprising a polymer matrix having from 99.9 weight % to about 30 weight % of a biocompatible polymeric matrix and from about 0.1 to about 70 weight % of an active agent, wherein the weight % are based on the total weight of the of the polymeric matrix and active agent, and extruding the polymer blend into the article.
Abstract:
In accordance with one aspect of the present exemplary embodiment, a printing system comprises a media feeder that receives and stores asymmetrically thick media from an outside source and outputs such media to the printing system via a feed mechanism. A conveyer system transports the asymmetrically thick media from the media feeder utilizing at least one linear belt wherein a sensor is employed to determine the presence of the asymmetrically thick piece of stock. A controller coupled to the conveyer determines the location and orientation of an image on a piece of the asymmetrically thick stock. An imaging system receives the asymmetrically thick media from the conveyer system and places an image on the media in the proper location and orientation based at least in part on information from the controller.
Abstract:
The present invention provides angiogenesis inhibitor compounds comprising a MetAP-2 inhibitory core coupled to a peptide, as well as pharmaceutical compositions comprising the angiogenesis inhibitor compounds and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The present invention also provides methods of treating an angiogenic disease, e.g., cancer, in a subject by administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of one or more of the angiogenesis inhibitor compounds of the invention.
Abstract:
A television system comprising a television set with at least one television tuner, and a broadcast data receiver for selective operation to receive data for the generation of one of a number of selectable television channels, and a detector to detect spectral emissions from the television tuner. The spectral emissions are a value from the local oscillator to allow identification of an analogue channel selected for display by the user. The broadcast data receiver is controlled to decode and process digital data relating to the identified analogue channel and display the processed digital data to produce the selected channel via the television system.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an apparatus and method for producing nonwoven fibrous webs. The apparatus comprises an extrusion die, first and second fluid supplies in cooperation with the die, first and second extrusion capillaries, first counterbores allowing fluid communication between first capillaries and first supply and second counterbores allowing fluid communication between second capillaries and second supply, each first counterbore having at least two first capillaries extending therefrom. The method comprises providing an extrusion die in communication with first and second fluid supplies and the die comprising first and second extrusion capillaries, first counterbores and second counterbores, each first counterbore having at least two of the first capillaries extending therefrom, providing a first fluidized polymer and a second fluid, conveying the polymer through the first supply, first counterbores and first capillaries to extrude a first plurality of fibers, and conveying the second fluid through the second supply, second counterbores and second capillaries.
Abstract:
Disclosed are thermally-stable, anthraquinone colorant compounds (dyes) which contain one or more vinyl groups which render the compounds copolymerizable with reactive vinyl monomers to produce colored, polymeric compositions such as acrylate and methacrylate polymeric materials. The compounds possess good fastness (stability) to ultraviolet (UV) light, good solubility in vinyl monomers, good color strength and excellent thermal stability. Also disclosed are (1) coating composition comprising (i) one or more polymerizable vinyl compounds, (ii) one or more of the dye compounds described above, and (iii) a photoinitiator and (2) polymeric materials, i.e., polymers derived from one or more acrylic acid esters, one or more methacrylic acid esters, one or more other polymerizable vinyl compounds or mixtures of any two or more thereof, having copolymerized therein one or more of the anthraquinone colorant compounds.
