摘要: A method for inducing weight loss with a patient, using the step of providing an implant for placement within the stomach wherein the implant is a member having an undeployed shape for delivery to the stomach and a deployed shape for implantation therein. The method also involves the step of delivering the member to the stomach while in its undeployed shape. The method further involves the step of exerting an outward force against an interior of the stomach so as to bring together two substantially opposing surfaces of the hollow body by placing the member in its deployed position.

摘要: A method of deploying a surgical fastener into a patient by introducing the fastener into a body of a patient while the fastener is in a first shape having a first loop with a back span and an original size and shape. The method then involves moving end segments of the fastener away from each other substantially along an entire length thereof while keeping the back span in substantially its original size and shape. The method then involves forming the fastener into a second loop having a width greater than a width of the first loop.

摘要: A method for suture lacing includes providing a suture with a needle attached thereto, inserting the needle and suture into an organ through a passageway, throwing a single stitch through a first tissue member, throwing a single stitch through an opposed and spaced apart second tissue member, repeating the preceding step at least once, bringing the first and second tissue members in contact by tensioning the suture, whereby suture drag is minimized during the tensioning and even tissue compression substantially achieved, and securing the suture.

摘要: Devices and methods are provided for forming one or more plications in the walls of a body cavity. In particular, endoscopic devices and methods are provided for forming and/or securing endoluminal tissue folds to reduce the volume of the gastric cavity. An end effector that includes a tissue receiving cavity can be delivered to a desired surgical site to allow a tissue fold to be formed within the tissue receiving cavity. A fastener can be used to secure the adjacent layers of tissue that form the tissue fold. The tissue folds can be effective to limit the stomach's capacity and create a feeling of satiety.

摘要: Devices and related methods arc provided for the controlled delivery of a therapeutic to a targeted location within a body. More particularly, methods and devices are provided for controlling the rate of passage of an orally administered pill through a body, as well as for controlling the delivery of a therapeutic within the pill at a specific location within the body. Various types of devices, generally referred to herein as “catchers,” are provided that can actively catch a pill as it passes through a body. The catcher can hold the pill at a specific location within the body until a predetermined event occurs, such as partial or complete. administration of a therapeutic within the pill. The catcher can then release the pill upon command and/or upon the occurrence of the predetermined event to allow the pill to pass out of the body. In other embodiments, various types of pills are provided that can actively engage a catcher and remain engaged with the catcher until a predetermined event occurs.

摘要: A fastener applying device including a staple housing having a proximal end attached to a handle, a distal end, and a longitudinal axis therebetween. There is at least one fastener within the housing. The device also includes an anvil movable within the staple housing. The anvil has a proximal position and a distal position, wherein when in the distal position a distal end of the anvil extends distal to the distal end of the staple housing by a distance. The device also includes an adjustment nut connecting the staple housing to the handle. Rotation of the adjustment nut changes the distance.
