Abstract: A sampling container assembly includes a sample receiving residue tube, a residue tube cap, inner and outer pipes, a container cap, a fixture block, and a supply conduit. The residue tube cap is assembled with the residue tube and defines inlet and outlet ports. The inner pipe has a lower end sealingly mounted to the fixture block and surrounding the residue tube to define an inner cavity for receiving a heat transfer fluid. The outer pipe has a lower end sealingly mounted to the fixture block and surrounding the inner pipe to define an outer annulus, with the container cap sealingly assembled with an upper end of the outer pipe. The supply conduit extends through the fixture block and the outer annulus and is connected with the inlet port of the residue tube cap for providing a sample fluid to the residue tube. The fixture block defines a passage extending to the outer annulus for supplying a chilling fluid to the outer annulus for chilling the heat transfer fluid in the inner cavity.

Abstract: A filtration assembly for separating solids from liquids contained in a sample, and a method for preparing such a sample are disclosed herein. According to one embodiment, the filtration assembly includes an inner element (100) with proximal and distal ends (102,103) and a sample (200) disposed therein. A reinforcing sleeve (300) is disposed around the inner element (100) to form a sample receiver (250) with proximal and distal ends (252,253). A filter (400) is disposed at the open proximal end of the sample receiver (252) and a filtrate receiver (500) is placed over the filter (400) and threadedly engaged with the sample receiver (250) to clamp the filter (400) therebetween. Then, the receivers (250,500) are inverted and a pressure is applied to the sample (200) to force a liquid component (200a) through the filter (400) into the filtrate receiver (500), while solids (200b) are retained in the sample receiver (250).

Abstract: A lacrimal tear flow measurement device, and methods of manufacture and use, are described that includes a polymer microcapillary tube or similar structure having at least one end coated on the outside with soft silicone rubber and one end treated on the inside to be hydrophobic. The hydrophobic end keeps liquid from escaping or entering that end while allowing air to pass. The rest of the tube's insides may be hydrophilic or a neutral hydrophobe. As a Schirmer's test strip replacement, the entrance end of the device can be touched to the lacrimal lake of a patient's eye to collect suck up, or merely collect, tear fluid within the collection tube for weighing, volume measurement, or other analysis. Long-term collection devices for wear between doctors' visits can have a bypass channel allowing liquid to flow back onto the eye.

Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a blood analysis method in which a high level of repeatability and reproducibility is achieved with respect to measurement values in a blood sample, and a blood test kit which is used for the blood analysis method. According to the present invention, a blood analysis method including a step of diluting a collected blood sample with a diluent solution; a step of quantitatively determining sodium ions in the diluent solution of the blood sample by using a solution containing β-galactosidase and at least one substrate which is convertible by β-galactosidase so as to determine a dilution factor from a normal value of serum and blood plasm sodium ions which are homeostatically present in the blood and the quantitative value of sodium ions; and a step of analyzing a concentration of a target component to be measured in the blood sample from the determined dilution factor and a measurement value of a concentration of the target component to be measured in the blood sample, in which the diluent solution is a diluent solution which does not contain sodium ions, is provided.

Abstract: Pipette tip couplers, pipette tips, coupler and tip combinations, and methods for coupling and decoupling a pipette tip to or from an expanding mandrel pipette tip coupler mounted on a pipette device. The pipette tip couplers include circumferentially spaced apart segments for engaging an interior surface of a pipette tip, an annular base disposed below the segments, a distal elastomeric element disposed around a distal stem portion for sealing against the interior surface of the pipette tip, upwardly extending circumferentially spaced apart arms each supporting a different segment, and a stop disk for abutting a stop shoulder in a pipette tip. The pipette tips include a groove in a first cylindrical section, a second cylindrical section, a pipette tip stop shoulder surface, a third cylindrical section, and a sealing seat surface.

Abstract: A system including an NMR spectrometer (1) with a flow cell (2) analyzing a first liquid test sample (P1), a distributing device (3) with a multi-way valve, plural assemblies interconnected via fluid lines through the distributing device, a cannula (5) taking test samples from a storage vessel (5a), a sample loop (6) temporarily storing a further test sample (P2), and a pump device (7) pumping liquid (S) into the system. The valve arrangement a) decouples the sample loop with the temporarily stored further test sample and, simultaneously, b) decouples the flow cell with the first test sample from all fluid lines to the distributing device; and c) connects the cannula to the pump device for a simultaneous purging step or to the flow cell for removing the first test sample into a receiving vessel (5b; 5c) or to the sample loop for receiving a subsequent test sample.

Abstract: A system for sampling a sample material includes a device for directing sample into a capture probe. A probe includes an outer probe housing having an open end. A liquid supply conduit has an outlet positioned to deliver liquid to the open end. An exhaust conduit removes liquid from the open end of the housing. The liquid supply conduit can be connectable to a liquid supply for delivering liquid at a first volumetric flow rate to the open end of the housing. A liquid exhaust system can be in fluid connection with the liquid exhaust conduit for removing liquid from the liquid exhaust conduit at a second volumetric flow rate, which exceeds the first volumetric flow rate such that gas with sample is withdrawn with the liquid.
