    摘要: In a laser apparatus which includes a laser medium exhibiting thermally induced optical distortions, and flash lamp mounted near the laser medium to provide laser pumping radiation, an absorbing filter is mounted between the flash lamp and the laser medium for absorbing radiation in the output spectrum of the lamp which exhibits a low fluorescence efficiency in the laser medium. By absorbing radiation with the low fluorescence efficiency in the laser medium, heat which develops in the laser medium can be limited to control the thermally induced optical distortions.

    摘要: A solid state laser comprises a laser element formed from crystalline, ceramic, glass ceramic, glass, or plastic material in the configuration of a rod or slab. The cooling capabilities of the rods or slabs are improved by the provision of internal bores or slots through which a coolant can flow, and/or by the provision of a modified cross-sectional profile whereby the cooling surface is increased and the distance between the interior regions of the rod or slab and the cooling surface is reduced. Alternatively, the cooling capacity of the laser system is improved by providing a rotating arrangement of laser material wherein only specific portions of the laser materials are subjected to pumping while other portions are cooling.

    摘要: A laser with variable wavelength contains, as laser-active material in the laser resonator, a mixture consisting of a first substance present as granulate and of a fluid (liquid or gaseous) second substance. One of these substances is laser-active. The course of the dispersion curves (11-12, and 13-14, respectively) of the indices of refraction of the two substances is dependent on temperature and/or pressure or density, and the curves have at least one point of intersection. When the laser is excited, it emits at a wavelength (.lambda..sub.1, .lambda..sub.2) which corresponds to the point of intersection of the dispersion curves. The temperature and/or pressure or density of the mixture of substances within the laser resonator is varied for controlled selection of the emission wavelength (.lambda..sub.1, .lambda..sub.2).

    摘要: An optically pumped slab laser includes a solid-state lasing medium having a longitudinally extending lasing axis. A lamp is disposed proximate the lasing medium for emitting optical pumping radiation, and a reflector surrounds the lamp for directing the radiation at selected portions of the lasing medium. A fluid coolant is flowed across a major surface of the lasing medium to remove heat therefrom. The lasing medium exhibits a typical negative focal power lens effect distortion in portions proximate its lateral edges. The reflector is shaped to introduce a positive lens effect distortion, equal in magnitude to the negative lens effect distortion, to a central portion of the lasing medium between the lateral edge portions. External reflectors are positioned so as to direct a subsequently generated laser beam through alternate regions exhibiting the positive and negative focal power lens effect distortions, so that the beam subsequently exits the slab laser with no net distortion.
