A composition containing cellulose formate and a solvent system. At a temperature at least equal to a value T.sub.f the composition is a solution, and at a temperature appreciably less than T.sub.f the composition is an elastic, thermoreversible gel.A process for preparing a regenerated cellulose article by the transformation of this composition. Gel spinning in order to obtain a fibre or a film. A regenerated cellulose fibre having an excellent resistance to fibrillation in particular, wherein the said fibre may be a monofilament fibre. These fibres or these films may be used in textile applications or in technical applications, for example for reinforcing other articles, particularly tires.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a novel method for the preparation of an organo-polysiloxane-grafted polysaccharide compound which is particularly useful as an additive ingredient in various types of cosmetic and toiletry preparations. The method utilizes a reaction between epoxy groups of a diorganopolysiloxane, e.g., dimethylpolysiloxane, terminated at a single molecular chain end with a 2-(3,4-epoxycyclohexyl)ethyl group and carboxyl groups in a carboxyl group-containing polysaccharide compound such as hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose phthalate and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose acetate succinate dissolved in an organic solvent. The reaction proceeds efficiently without addition of any catalytic compounds almost quantitatively under moderate reaction conditions.
Abstract:
The composition comprising a cellulose ester including at least 10 weight % of a low-substituted cellulose ester having an average degree of substitution not exceeding 2.15 and giving a 4-week decomposition rate of at least 60 weight % as determined using the amount of evolution of carbon dioxide as an indicator in accordance with ASTM 125209-91. The composition may contains a plasticizer, an aliphatic polyester, a photolysis accelerator such as anatase type titanium dioxide or a biodegradation accelerator such as organic acids and their esters. The low-substituted cellulose ester may be a cellulose ester having an average degree of polymerization from 50 to 250, an average degree of substitution from 1.0 to 2.15 and a residual alkali metal/alkaline earth metal-to-residual sulfuric acid equivalent ratio of 0.1 to 1.1. The biodegradable cellulose ester composition is suitable for the manufacture of various articles including fibrous articles such as tobacco filters.
Abstract:
An improved extrudable solution such as a cellulose acetate/acetone spinning solution is provided containing cellulose ester, solvent, metal oxide precursor, acid, and water. The solution is extruded such as by spinning and produces a shaped article such as a cellulose acetate fiber containing metal oxide interpenetrating networks.
