Abstract:
An elevator includes a car, a counterweight, a suspension working together with the car and the counterweight, and a wheel at least partially wound around by the suspension, wherein the suspension comprises a tie beam arrangement made of two tie beams and a shell encasing the tie beam arrangement, said shell comprising a longitudinal structure in an area of an outer surface partially winding around the wheel, and wherein the ratio of the width of the suspension to the height thereof is greater than one and less than or equal to three. The wheel comprises a groove for guiding the suspension on the sides, in which the suspension is at least partially received, and the groove floor thereof being formed flat. The shell is coated, at least in areas, on the outer surface thereof, wherein the coating optionally has a friction-reducing, friction-increasing, and/or wear-reducing effect.
Abstract:
A method of making a multi-layer insulated elongate member is disclosed. The method includes providing an elongate member and tube extruding a first thermoplastic material onto an outer surface of the elongate member to create a first layer having a thickness less than or equal to 0.064 mm (0.0025 inch) using a first extruder apparatus. The method further includes using a second extruder apparatus for pressure extruding a compound comprising a second thermoplastic material different from the first thermoplastic material onto an outer surface of the first layer to create a second layer. The second layer fully wets the first layer and the flow point of the first thermoplastic material is at least 30° C. greater than the extrusion melt temperature of the second thermoplastic material.
Abstract:
A self-wrapping, textile sleeve for routing and protecting elongate members from exposure to abrasion, thermal and other environmental conditions and method on construction thereof. The sleeve has an elongate wall constructed from interlaced yarns having interstices between adjacent yarns. At least one of the yarns is heat formed at one temperature to form the wall as a self-wrapping wall curling about a longitudinal axis of the sleeve. The wall has an inner surface providing a generally tubular cavity in which the elongate members are received. The wall also has an outer surface with a cured layer thereon. The cured layer is cured at the one temperature at which the yarns are heat formed into their self-wrapping configuration, wherein the cured layer fills the interstices between adjunct yarns to form an impervious layer on the wall.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus to produce a non-helically wound subsea umbilical is disclosed. The apparatus to produce a non-helically wound umbilical may be portable to facilitate manufacturing of subsea umbilicals in remote locations. This apparatus is smaller and more economical to build and operate than conventional cabling machines that currently are used by many manufactures to produce helically wound subsea umbilicals.
Abstract:
An embodiment of a wellbore cable comprises a cable core, at least a first armor wire layer comprising a plurality of strength members and surrounding the cable core, and at least a second armor wire layer comprising a plurality of strength members surrounding the first armor wire layer, the second armor wire layer covering a predetermined percentage of the circumference of the first armor wire layer to prevent torque imbalance in the cable.
Abstract:
A thin buffer layer is used to coat on the multi-filament wrapped string to fill the gaps. The polymers of the buffer-layer coating have a high melt-flow (low viscosity) during coating process to fill all the gaps between the filaments, and the filaments are fixed by the coatings onto base core materials.
Abstract:
A flexible member, comprising: an inner core member, comprising a plurality of strands of liquid crystal polymers cooperating with each other to define and provide the inner core member; an outer sheath disposed about the inner core member, the outer sheath defining an inner opening for receiving the inner core member therein, the inner core member being slidably received within the outer sheath, wherein the flexible member is capable of being disposed about a curved surface, wherein a lubricant is disposed upon an exterior surface of the outer sheath and the outer sheath further comprises an end-fitting member disposed about a portion of the flexible connector, the portion of the flexible connector comprising an engagement surface for securement of the end fitting thereto.
Abstract:
An elevator rope comprising an elastomer coated, multistrand steel wire cable is claimed. In such a cable strands have a lay-length of at least 6.5 times the diameter of the bare cable diameter D. The cable is further coated with an elastomeric jacket, which adheres to the strands with a pull-out force not less than 15×D+15 newton per mm. The advantages of such an elevator rope are amongst others its limited elongation, its reduced diameter and its improved fatigue life.
Abstract:
A tension member for an elevator system has an aspect ratio of greater than one, where aspect ratio is defined as the ratio of tension member width w to thickness t (w/t). The increase in aspect ratio results in a reduction in the maximum rope pressure and an increased flexibility as compared to conventional elevator ropes. As a result, smaller sheaves may be used with this type of tension member. In a particular embodiment, the tension member includes a plurality of individual load carrying ropes encased within a common layer of coating. The coating layer separates the individual ropes and defines an engagement surface for engaging a traction sheave.
Abstract:
A sheathed synthetic fiber rope includes concentric layers of load-bearing synthetic fiber strands, preferably of aramide fibers, with an outermost layer of strands having anchoring strands permanently fastened to a sheath extruded onto the outermost layer. The anchoring strands can be formed of weldable or vulcanizable material. Alternatively, a polyurethane jacket surrounding each of the outermost layer strands can be used to permanently fasten the sheath.
