Abstract:
Method and apparatus for minimizing antenna backside signal response and ambiguity in low frequency applications, particularly low frequency synthetic aperture radar (SAR). Various time delay elements are selectably switched into the signal path so as to cause a null to be placed in the antenna response pattern in the direction of undesired radar returns. The means for selectably switching may be dithered so as to introduce modulation onto the undesired radar return to aid in the discrimination and removal of the undesired radar return from the SAR image during post processing.
Abstract:
A kit provides implements for applying a decorative laminate to a target surface. The kit comprises an applicator adapted to hold a roll of surface covering material and to apply the surface covering material to a target surface. The kit also comprises instructions for the application of a surface covering material to the target surface.
Abstract:
An amplifier and method of amplifying a signal is presented. The amplifier contains a fixed gain stage, a digitally controllable gain stage, and a continuously variable attenuator connected between the fixed and controllable gain stages. The attenuator and controllable gain stage are controllable such that the gain of the controllable gain stage is decreased when the attenuation of the attenuator reaches a predetermined maximum value and the attenuation of the attenuator is reduced thereafter. The output power level of the amplifier remains constant.
Abstract:
A method of fabricating a vertically mountable integrated circuit (IC) package is presented. An integrated circuit is mounted on a printed circuit board (PCB) and electrically coupled to a bond pad on the PCB. The bond pad is coupled with a via that is embedded in the PCB. The IC, the bond pad, the via, and a portion of the PCB are singulated in order to create a vertically mountable IC package. The via is cut through cross-sectionally during singulation so as to expose a portion of the via and thereby provide a mountable area for the IC package. The IC package may be encapsulated or housed in a dielectric material. In addition, the via may be treated with a preservative or other suitable electroless metal plating deposition that prevents oxidation and promotes solderability.
Abstract:
A fiducial beam monitor includes a patterned diode layer on a semiconducting substrate. An electrical field between the diode (or diodes) on the diode layer and the semiconducting substrate modulates the size of the depletion layer formed by the diode or diode. A high energy beam incident upon a diode on the diode layer produces a greater current than a high energy beam incident upon a non-diodic region of the same layer. In use, the beam monitor is typically fixed to the backside of a workpiece such as a semitransparent membrane being patterned by a focused high energy beam that is translated with respect to workpiece and attached monitor. The changes in current during translation are then correlated with the position of the beam with respect to the pattern on the diode layer.
Abstract:
An improved process for the alkylation of benzene in the presence of an alkylation catalyst. The catalyst bed may be caused to move in a direction countercurrent to the movement of the benzene and olefin, or a portion of the catalyst bed is periodically removed and replaced. A regeneration step, whereby the catalyst is heated in a controlled oxygen atmosphere in order to reactivate the catalyst, is also described.
