Abstract:
Improved methods and apparatuses for imaging during medical procedures in accordance with various embodiments of the present invention include use of an image correction algorithm. In various embodiments, an original image of a region of interest where a medical procedure occurring along a particular axis will be performed is created with a beam emitter and a generally planar detector. Due to the emitter not being aligned orthogonal to the detector, the original image will be skewed. Using a known location and orientation of the detector, a location and orientation of the emitter provided by a position monitoring system, and the original image, a processing system can execute the image correction algorithm to provide a corrected image to allow a surgeon to perform the medical procedure while viewing an accurate corrected image in real-time.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a remote data collecting system comprising a measuring device comprising at least two scales in communication with a terminal center. The terminal center is in communication with a control center. The control center can be linked to a computer with software to collect, distribute, analyze, and display data collected from the measuring device. The remote data collecting system is particularly useful for uncontrolled environment (e.g., in-home) product testing such as testing the palatability of pet foods.
Abstract:
A thermal load control assembly for a fuel injector includes a rail inlet port, a cooling inlet port and a fuel drain port. A leakage path channels leaked fuel originating from the rail inlet port to the fuel drain port. A cooling path channels fuel originating from the cooling inlet port to the fuel drain port. A fuel system using a thermal load control assembly includes a single fuel tank that supplies fuel to the rail inlet port and the cooling inlet port of a plurality of fuel injectors and collect fuel from the fuel drain port of the plurality of fuel injectors.
Abstract:
A micro-electro-mechanical switch is described. The switch comprises a substrate, with a signal transmission portion and an activation portion attached with the substrate. The activation portion includes an armature activation electrode positioned above a substrate activation electrode. The signal transmission portion includes a metal contact extending from a conducting transmission line and through a bottom insulating layer of the signal transmission portion, thereby being exposed for electrical contact. A mechanical linkage connects the activation portion with the signal transmission portion so that the activation portion and the signal transmission portion move in concert. When an activation signal is applied along the activation portion, both the activation portion and the signal transmission portion are drawn toward the substrate to a substantially closed position, where the metal contact of the signal transmission portion electrically contacts a signal transmission electrode.
Abstract:
A phototherapy apparatus is disclosed including: a body member; a plurality of elongated light transmitting elements, each of the elements extending between a proximal end enclosed within the body member and a distal end located outside of and distal to the body member; where the tips of the proximal ends of the light transmitting elements are located in close proximity to each other; and an optical connector configured to detachably receive an end of a lightguide and to couple light delivered by the lightguide from a source into the light transmitting elements at the proximal ends. The light coupled into each of the light transmitting elements is transmitted along the element and emitted from the distal end.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a spotter device and methods for the formation of microassays, biochips, biosensors, and cell cultures. The spotter may be used to deposit highly concentrated spots of protein or other materials on a microarray slide, wafer, or other surface. It may also be used to perform various chemistry steps on the same spots. The spotter increases the surface density of substances at each spot by directing a flow the desired substance (or a solution thereof) over the spot area until surface saturation is accomplished. The spotter may be loaded by well plate handling equipment. The spotter uses wells, microfluidic conduits, and orifices to deposit proteins, other biomolecules, or chemicals on a spot on a separate surface. Each orifice is connected to two wells via microconduits. When the spotter contacts a surface, a seal is formed between the orifices and the surface. The same or different substances may be flowed across each orifice. Any number of orifices may be incorporated into a spotter. The spotter is particularly useful for depositing proteins in high concentrations on a surface, since the spotter may be placed on a surface for an extended period of time.
Abstract:
A method for fabricating a quartz nanoresonator which can be integrated on a substrate, along with other electronics is disclosed. In this method a quartz substrate is bonded to a base substrate. The quartz substrate is metallized so that a bias voltage is applied to the resonator, thereby causing the quartz substrate to resonate at resonant frequency greater than 100 MHz. The quartz substrate can then be used to drive other electrical elements with a frequency equal to its resonant frequency. The quartz substrate also contains tuning pads to adjust the resonant frequency of the resonator. Additionally, a method for accurately thinning a quartz substrate of the resonator is provided. The method allows the thickness of the quartz substrate to be monitored while the quartz substrate is simultaneously thinned
Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for dynamically altering the access capabilities to the data resources for users of a computer based application. The access capabilities are defined by a dynamic role that specifies which of the resources a user may access, and a set of permissions associated with the dynamic role to define. New dynamic roles may be created when additional resources and components are added to an application. Methods and systems are provided for creating new dynamic roles to temporarily access resources, and for deleting a dynamic role after it is no longer needed.
