Abstract:
System and method for real-time, automatic, recognition of large time-scale driving patterns employs a statistical pattern recognition framework, implemented by means of feed-forward neural network utilizing models developed for recognizing, for example, four classes of driving environments, namely highway, main road, suburban traffic and city traffic, from vehicle performance data. A vehicle control application effects changes in vehicle performance aspects based on the recognized driving environment.

The characteristic feature is that the inner wall in said upstream section exposes a hydrophilic surface area with an underlying base layer comprising metal oxide. In one aspect the microfluidic device as such is covered.
Abstract:
Microfluidic arrangement which comprises A) a number of microfluidic devices, and B) an instrument which comprises a spinner motor and a rotary member arranged such that liquid flow can be driven centrifugal force in each of the devices by spinning the. Each of the microfluidic devices comprises microchannel structures in a common planar layer I. The characteristic feature is that layer I of each device can be oriented radially and at an angle ≠0° relative to the plane of the rotary member, with preference for 90°. The rotary member has seats for holding the devices. A microfluidic device comprising i) two essentially planar and parallel opposite sides, and edge sides, ii) a set of one, two, three or more essentially equal microchannel structures, each of which comprises a first inlet arrangement comprising an inlet port IP I1. The characteristic feature is that a) each of the inlet ports is present in an edge side, and b) the wettability of the inner walls of said first inlet arrangement permits penetration by capillarity of at least a predetermined first volume of an aqueous liquid.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a new and improved way of continuously cooking fiber material in an over loaded digester, wherein temperatures and alkaline levels are controlled to be maintained within specific levels in different zones of the digesting process in order to optimize chemical consumption and heat economy and, at the same time, to achieve very good pulp properties.
Abstract:
A method for cooking chips which are impregnated, in a vessel (3), with liquid in first and second concurrent impregnation zones (A, B), impregnation liquid being supplied, in a mixture with steamed chips, through a feeding system to the first impregnation zone, and liquid for recovery being extracted at a first point (41) at the end of the first impregnation zone, and further liquid being supplied to the second impregnation zone (B). According to the invention, liquid is extracted at a second point (43) at the start of the second impregnation zone (B) and is circulated in an impregnation circulation (44, 45) which empties out at the center of the vessel at a point between the first and second points (41, 43) for extraction of liquid so that a flow of liquid is established from the center of the vessel in a radial direction. The further liquid is supplied to the impregnation circulation for continued impregnation of the chips in the second impregnation zone.
Abstract:
A method to pulp cellulosic fibrous material including: alkaline cooking cellulosic fibrous material in a continuous digester vessel to produce a pulp having a kappa number in a range of 50 to 120; washing the pulp discharged from the digester vessel; treating the washed pulp in the presence of oxygen and alkali to remove lignin; washing the oxygen-treated pulp such that the kappa number is recued by at least at least 30; separating lignin from wash filtrate generated by the washing of the oxygen-treated pulp, and using the separated wash filtrate as a washing liquid in the washing of the pulp from the digester vessel.
Abstract:
A method to cook thin chips in a continuous digester vessel including: introducing thin chips having a thickness of no more than 6 mm, into a chip bin; adding white (cooking) liquor to the chip bin or to a chip transport passage extending from the chip bin to an upper inlet of the continuous digester vessel; injecting medium pressure steam or another heated fluid to an upper region of the digester vessel to elevate a cooking temperature of the chips in the vessel to at least 130 degrees Celsius; cooking the chips in the vessel as the chips flow downward through the vessel without substantial extraction or introduction of liquor in the cooking section of the vessel; injecting wash liquid to a lower region of the vessel; extracting at least wash liquid through a wash liquid extraction screen in the lower region of the vessel and above the injection of the wash liquid, and discharging the cooked thin chips from the lower region of the vessel.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a process system and a method for preliminary treatment of disintegrated cellulose-containing material, preferably wood chips, prior to pulp digestion. The process system and the method according to the invention make use of a process vessel intended to function both as a so-called chip bin and as a pre-impregnation vessel. The characteristics of the invention are that a sloping steaming vessel is arranged downstream of the process vessel for the purpose of separating an excess of pre-impregnation liquid from the pre-impregnated cellulose-containing material, that the sloping steaming vessel is arranged for supplying steaming vapor which preferably has been generated by flashing of extraction liquor from a pulp digester, and that the sloping steaming vessel is connected to a chip chute communicating with a condenser for connection to a system for managing foul-smelling process gases. The invention can be applied in the production of pulp which is intended for paper manufacture or other applications where cellulose fibers are used.
