Abstract:
A novel system and method for charge-monitoring mass spectrometry is provided. The mass spectrometer can be used to measure the mass of one or more analytes having masses in the range of about a few Daltons to more than about 1015 Daltons. The invention can be used for rapid mass distribution measurements. For example, the system and method can be used to distinguish cancer cells from normal cells when their mass distributions are different.
Abstract:
An antenna system and method utilize an evaluation branch circuit and an implementation branch circuit. These circuits are each connected to both a first antenna input and a second antenna input. An output of the evaluation branch circuit is in communication with a controller while an output of the implementation branch circuit is in communication with a receiver. Each branch circuit includes at least one signal conditioner to change an electrical characteristic of RF signals received from antennas via the antenna inputs. The evaluation branch circuit, controlled by the controller, changes the electrical characteristics of the RF signals in a variety of different ways to discover an optimized evaluation RF signal. Once the optimized evaluation RF signal is determined, the implementation branch circuit is controlled, by the controller, to produce an optimized implementation RF signal in accordance with that discovered by the evaluation branch circuit.
Abstract:
A device includes a substrate, a semiconductor fin over the substrate, and a gate dielectric layer on a top surface and sidewalls of the semiconductor fin. A gate electrode is spaced apart from the semiconductor fin by the gate dielectric layer. The gate electrode includes a top portion over and aligned to the semiconductor fin, and a sidewall portion on a sidewall portion of the dielectric layer. The top portion of the gate electrode has a first work function, and the sidewall portion of the gate electrode has a second work function different from the first work function.
Abstract:
A magnetic filter employs a magnetic core assembly that incorporates a plurality of exchangeable holder sleeves, each enclosing permanent magnets. Neither the sleeves nor magnetic bars are mechanically fixed to the filter housing. The magnet bars and holder sleeves are individually accessible. The number of holder sleeves in the magnetic core assembly is flexible. The magnetic filter in equipped with a screen that partially encloses the elongated holder sleeves to treat streams that contain degradation sludge, iron containing particles or flakes, and non-magnetic polymeric materials. In operation, a feed stream initially contacts the magnetic core assembly where paramagnetic contaminants become deposited onto the exterior surface of the holder sleeves under direct influence of strong magnetic field generated by the magnet bars. The mesh screen cylinder subsequently captures non-magnetic and weakly magnetic contaminants of a certain size before the cleaned stream exits the magnetic filter.
Abstract:
An inverter including a switch circuit for converting a DC power to output an AC voltage between a first output terminal and a second output terminal is provided. The switch circuit includes a first switch branch having a first switch element, a second switch element, and a third switch element; a second switch branch having a fourth switch element, a fifth switch element, and a sixth switch element; a first freewheeling unit connected to the first switch element, the second switch element, and the second output terminal for providing a freewheeling path between the second output terminal and the first switch element and the second switch element; and a second freewheeling unit connected to the fourth switch element and the fifth switch element and the first output terminal for providing a freewheeling path between the first output terminal and the fourth switch element and the fifth switch element.
Abstract:
A connection method and a management server are provided. Each electronic apparatus detects connection behavior supported by a network, where the electronic apparatus is located, through the management server and accordingly generates a corresponding connection profile and stores it to the management server. The management server reads two connection profiles corresponding to two electronic apparatuses when the management server receives a connection request desired to connect from one of the electronic apparatuses to another one, and dynamically adjusts a plurality of connection detection procedures based on a connection success/failure record. The management server tests the connection detection procedures to determine whether a connection can be established between the two electronic apparatuses so as to obtain a session profile for establishing the connection.
Abstract:
A wastewater treatment method using annularly arranged microorganism carriers in a reaction tank, which defines therein an upper reaction area, a lower reaction area and a passage area surrounded by the microorganism carriers and kept in communication between the upper reaction area and the lower reaction area. Microorganisms including nitrifying bacteria and autotrophic denitrifying bacteria are attached to the surface of each microorganisms carriers and suspending in the water of the reaction tank for causing Anammox reaction to convert NH4+ and NO2− in wastewater into nitrogen gas, achieving removal of total nitrogen compounds from water. The microorganism carriers are used to retain microorganisms in the reaction tank, enhancing the treatment efficiency.
Abstract:
A swing assembly has a seat with a folding back that locks the swing automatically when the back folds from an upright configuration to a flat configuration so the swing is stable. The swing assembly includes an upper cross bar having two ends, a lower cross bar having two ends and a lateral support attached to each end of the upper cross bar and the lower cross bar, respectively. The swing assembly has a seat with two ends and a back. The back foldably attaches to the seat. A pair of seat supports attached to each end of the seat and moveably attach to a hanging support mounted on the upper cross bar adjacent each lateral support. A lower back support hangs from the seat back to automatically aligns with and lock with the lower cross bar when the swing moves from the upright configuration to the flat configuration.
Abstract:
An organic/inorganic hybrid material is provided, including an organic polymer, and a plurality of inorganic nano-platelets, wherein the inorganic nano-platelets are self-connected or connected via a linker to constitute an inorganic platelet network. By the formation of the inorganic network structure, the hybrid materials can keep their transparency and flexibility at a high inorganic content, and exhibit greatly reduced coefficients of thermal expansion A method for fabricating the organic/inorganic hybrid material is also provided.
