Abstract: Methods and systems for a powertrain power management in a vehicle with an electric motor, and an engine are disclosed. The methods and systems involve a powertrain that is operatively coupled to the engine and the electric motor, and an optimizer module operatively coupled to the powertrain. The optimizer module receives an operator information to travel a route from a remote management module, receives current route information for the route from a mapping application in response to the operator information, measures current vehicle status information for the hybrid vehicle, and decides a power management strategy for the vehicle based on the current route information and the current vehicle status information.

Abstract: At least some embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to systems and methods for controlling a cylinder deactivation (CDA) operation for an electrified powertrain, the electrified powertrain comprising an engine and an additional power source, the engine having a plurality of cylinders. The method includes the step of: operating the electrified powertrain in a CDA mode and deactivating one or more selected cylinders of the plurality of cylinders; receiving measurement data indicative of operating conditions of the electrified powertrain; analyzing the measurement data to determine whether a predetermined operating condition is met; and adjusting the CDA operation by adjusting the duration of the CDA operation or changing a number of deactivated cylinders.

Abstract: A system is provided for performing an automated range estimation process for an electric vehicle using a processor. Included in the system is a range estimator configured to estimate an initial value of an energy required to travel a unit distance for the electric vehicle. The range estimator generates a first estimation model based on a correlation between a maximum all-electric-range and the energy required to travel a unit distance. Then, the first estimation model is adjusted based on one or more predetermined driving conditions. The maximum all-electric-range of the electric vehicle is updated based on the adjusted first estimation model. An estimated range of the electric vehicle is calculated based on the updated maximum all-electric-range of the electric vehicle and a fraction of total energy capability remaining in the electric vehicle. The estimated range of the electric vehicle is outputted and is used to control the electric vehicle.

Abstract: A method includes receiving, by a controller, information indicative of a temperature of an aftertreatment system of the vehicle and an exhaust gas characteristic. The method includes comparing, by the controller, the temperature of the aftertreatment system to a temperature threshold, and comparing, by the controller, the exhaust gas characteristic to a characteristic threshold. The method includes, responsive to the comparisons, commanding, by the controller, an aftertreatment system heater to selectively engage or disengage to warm the aftertreatment system of the vehicle.

Abstract: A system includes an aftertreatment system heater of an exhaust aftertreatment system coupled to an engine A controller coupled to the aftertreatment system heater is configured to determine a condition of an exhaust gas from an engine and compare the condition to a predefined threshold. If the condition of the exhaust gas does not meet the predefined threshold, the controller is configured to determine whether an engine operating condition is met for activating a cylinder deactivation operating mode for the engine. If the engine operating condition is met, the controller is configured to operate the engine in the cylinder deactivation operating mode by deactivating a cylinder of a plurality of cylinders. If the engine operating condition is not met, the controller is configured to activate the aftertreatment system heater to heat the exhaust gas.

Abstract: In a system having a hybrid powertrain having a piston internal combustion engine, and a motor/generator, and the motor generator being coupleable to a clutch and thereby to a gearbox, the engine further being equipped with a valvetrain control system operable to change the engine valve operation between a first mode in which the engine can operate in a conventional internal combustion mode and a second mode in which pumping losses are reduced when the engine is not operating in a conventional internal combustion mode. This allows it to be rotated without generating power, in a hybrid mode, with minimal losses.
