Abstract: This invention relates to a polymerization process for forming polymer comprising: contacting (typically in a solution or slurry phase), a monomer and a catalyst system in a reaction zone comprising at least one spiral heat exchanger and recovering polymer, wherein the monomer, the catalyst system and the polymer flow through the at least one spiral heat exchanger in a cross-flow direction relative to spirals of the at least one spiral heat exchanger.

Abstract: An elastomeric composition is disclosed. The elastomeric composition includes, per 100 parts by weight of rubber (phr): about 0 to about 25 phr of poly butadiene having a cis-1,4 linkage content of at least 95%; about 75 to 100 phr of a styrene/butadiene copolymer; about 10 to about 30 phr of a processing oil; about 50 to about 70 phr of a filler; a curative agent; an antioxidant; a silane coupling agent; and about 5 to about 30 phr of a propylene-ethylene-diene terpolymer.

Abstract: This invention relates to a continuous homogeneous solution phase polymerization process comprising contacting, in an evaporative reactor system at a temperature of 50° C. or more and a pressure of 100 kPa or more, a catalyst system, optionally, a hydrocarbon diluent, optionally, scavenger, and one or more monomer(s) to form a homogeneous polymerization medium, where the polymer product is dissolved in the reaction medium at 10 wt % or more (based upon the weight of the polymer present in the effluent at the exit of the reactor) and the catalyst system is dissolved in the reaction medium, and where the catalyst system comprises an activator and a coordination catalyst precursor compound and where all or part of the polymerization medium is evaporated during the polymerization.

Abstract: A process for activating a hydroalkylation catalyst in a first state comprising an acid component and a hydrogenating metal component, including: (i) treatment at a temperature of at least 120° C. in the presence of hydrogen for a first duration to produce a catalyst in a second state having a first hydroalkylation activity; (ii) contacting the catalyst in the second state with an aromatic compound and hydrogen under a hydroalkylation condition effective to convert at least part of the aromatic compound to a cycloalkylaromatic compound and produce a catalyst in a third state; and (iii) treating the catalyst in the third state at a temperature of at least 160° C. in the presence of hydrogen but advantageously in the substantial absence of the aromatic compound for a third duration to produce an activated catalyst in a fourth state having a third hydroalkylation activity greater than the first hydroalkylation activity.

Abstract: In a process for activating a hydroalkylation catalyst, a catalyst precursor comprising a solid acid component and a compound of a hydrogenation metal is heated at a heating rate of less than 50° C./hour in the presence of hydrogen to an activation temperature in a range from 100° C. to 260° C. and then the heated catalyst precursor is treated with hydrogen for a duration effective to reduce at least a portion of the metal compound to an elemental form.

Abstract: Elastomeric compositions comprising propylene-ethylene-diene terpolymer based polyolefin additives useful in tire tread compositions. The elastomeric compositions comprise 100 phr (parts by weight per hundred parts of total elastomer) diene elastomers; about 0 to about 80 phr of processing oil; 0 to about 80 phr of a hydrocarbon resin; about 60 to about 140 phr of filler; a curative agent; and about 5 to about 30 phr of a silane functionalized propylene-ethylene-diene terpolymer. The silane functionalized propylene-ethylene-diene terpolymer comprises from about 2 wt. % to about 40 wt. % of ethylene and/or C4-C20 α-olefins derived units, from 0.5 to 10 wt % of diene derived units, and a silane coupling agent. The present elastomeric compositions are useful as tire tread compositions for improved tire performance.
