Abstract:
A method of preparing vinyl-silicone copolymers which involves the use of a mercapto-functional silicone compound as a macromolecular chain transfer agent. Release coatings and low adhesion backsizes comprising the vinyl-silicone copolymers.
Abstract:
Granular sorbent material comprising a granular high surface area support impregnated with a water soluble, essentially non-volatile primary or secondary amine with equivalent weight less than about 400 and bearing either zero or two carbonyl substituents attached directly to the amino nitrogen atom is disclosed. The resulting material can be used as the filtration media in respirators, powered air purifiers, room air purifiers, ventilation filters, exhaust filters, process gas filters and the like to reduce the formaldehyde content of air.
Abstract:
Vapor-sorbing particle-filled sheet material having a low insulation value and useful for providing reduced-stress vapor-sorbing garments. The sheet material comprises at least one permeable support fabric attached to a fibrous web which comprises a coherent mass of melt-blown fibers and vapor-sorptive particles dispersed in the mass of fibers.
Abstract:
Compositions comprising 1-40% siloxane containing polymer; 60-99% of an Alkane-Based Siloxy Polymer Reaction Solvent, and 0-15% of adjuvants are useful for application to the skin or as components in cosmetic or topical medicament compositions.
Abstract:
A thermographic element comprising in a non-aqueous binder medium a silver salt oxidizing agent in reactive association with a compound comprising a plurality of redox color releasing moieties such that oxidation of each redox color releasing moiety causes release from said compound of a thermally diffusible dye.The compounds many of which are new incorporate two or more developer moieties into a single molecule to minimize the diffusibility of the compound. Following oxidation, either directly by the silver salt or by means of a cross-oxidizing agent, each oxidized developer moiety releases a thermally diffusible dye. The compounds are of sufficient size and molecular weight to slow or prevent diffusion in imaging systems and yet possess several active developer moieties per molecule which is advantageous over known ballasted dye releasers which comprise bulky molecules with only a single developer moiety.
Abstract:
A permeable sheet material comprised of particle-loaded, melt-blown fiber web having a plurality of reinforcing fibers extending therethrough is provided. The reinforcing fibers are needled through the web of melt-blown fibers and are then bonded to fibers on the opposing faces of the layer of melt-blown fibers to hold the reinforcing fibers in position. Solid particles dispersed in the layer of melt-blown fibers are preferably vapor-sorptive particles, e.g., activated carbon, so that the sheet material will sorb vapors passing therethrough. The sheet material is particularly useful as a component of a chemical protective garment.
Abstract:
Surfactants which are blocked against surfactant action (identified herein as "photolabile blocked surfactants") by a photolabile protective or masking group but which, on exposure to actinic radiation, become unblocked are provided. Coating compositions in which surfactant is formed on irradiation are provided by blending the photolabile blocked surfactant with polymeric film-forming materials.Compositions containing the photolabile blocked surfactants are useful when employed as protective coatings on various substrates or as the adhesive in a pressure sensitive adhesive tape. Although initially well adhering to a substrate, such compositions may be readily removed from the substrate following exposure of the same to suitable radiation which unblocks the surfactant to permit it to regain its surfactant activity.
Abstract:
A photosensitive element is provided by an actinic radiation-transmissive film-forming polymeric material which contains photolabile blocked surfactant capable upon exposure to actinic radiation of releasing a detectable quantity of surfactant in actinic radiation exposed areas in areas not exposed to actinic radiation and unblocked surfactant in an image-wise pattern in the actinic radiation exposed areas. An imaging process is also provided comprising providing the actinic radiation-sensitive element and exposing the actinic radiation-sensitive element to actinic radiation in an image-wise pattern at an intensity and for a time sufficient to release an image-wise pattern of released surfactant in the exposed area.
Abstract:
A visually observable means for indicating end of service life of hazardous vapor/gas respirator cartridges or canisters is disclosed. A colorimetric indicator in sheet form is positioned along the inner transparent sidewall of the respirator cartridge or canister.
