A fuel injection pump having a hydraulic injection onset adjustment apparatus is proposed in which a supplementary variation of the injection onset is obtained by means of the variation of the pressure deviating from proportionality. The pressure control valve used has a throttle connection between the pressure chamber and the spring chamber. The variation of the pressure is obtained by means of controlling the discharge channel of the spring chamber, by means of a control slide exposed to the pump pressure, whose restoring spring is variable in accordance with engine characteristics.

A distributor type fuel injection pump has a rotary magnet regulator (15) to actuate a control member (14) determining the fuel injection quantity, which rotary magnet regulator (15) is driven by a regulating signal produced in dependence on the operational parameters of the internal combustion engine. The rotary magnet regulator (15) is accommodated in a chamber (16) forming part of the pump housing (17) and filled with fuel. A damping device (25) is provided for the purpose of avoiding rotary oscillations of the rotating armature (20) in the rotary magnet regulator (15), which damping device (25) consist of a paddle (26) fixed firmly to the rotating armature (20) and of two separating walls (27,28) provided in the chamber (16). The paddle (26) extends radially from the rotating armature (20) and nearly fills the entire clear cross-section of the chamber (16) available for the swing movement of the paddle. The separating walls (27,28) separate a chamber section (161) comprising the entire range of swing of the paddle (26) from the remaining chamber section (162), whereby however throttle openings ensure a flow of fuel between the chamber section (161) and the chamber section (162) (FIG. 2).

A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines having an electromagnetic final control element, which in order to adjust the end or onset of injection engages a control slide, located in the pump interior. Via a control shaft, the final control element chamber is hermetically sealed off from the pump interior in order to keep water contained in the fuel from reaching current-carrying parts of the final control element. As a result, fluid communication exists only via the bearing gap of the slide bearing of the control shaft and the bearing gap functions as a throttle. The throttle forms a water separator, which further reduces the concentration of water in the already small quantity of fuel reaching the final control element chamber through the throttle.

The fuel injection pump consists of a pump piston placed in a movable and rotating mode within a cylindrical bore of a cylindrical sleeve. The pump piston is designed as a combination piston with a damping piston of larger diameter, which will upon completion of the fuel injection period of the turn with the damping shoulder, border the damping chamber within damping bore of the cylindrical sleeve. This further allows only throttled amounts of fuel to flow through the throttling pintle into the suction chamber; the throttling pintle runs in a longitudinal direction and is located on the damping piston. This will produce supplementary hydraulic capacity extending from the damping shoulder, which has a supporting effect on the pump piston even at high turn speeds, and further allows for capacity increases of the fuel injection pump.

A fuel injection device is proposed which has a free piston hydraulically driven by a pump piston and controlling the relieving of the pump work chamber. To this end, the free piston is embodied in two parts, comprising a control piston and a relief piston displaceable relative thereto and oriented toward the pump work chamber. The two pistons enclose between them a relief chamber, which at the end of supply can be made to communicate via a relief conduit with a chamber of lower pressure. This free piston is also usable with fuel injection pumps which supply the injection quantity via a long pressure line to the injection nozzles located on the engine; however, it is particularly advantageously usable with a pump/nozzle, in which the injection pump and the injection nozzle are combined into a single component.
