摘要: A photodiode (26) receives an optical input signal (P1) and an internal optical signal (P2) and supplies in response thereto an internal electrical signal (I2), which in turn controls a laser (4) which effects amplification and supplies the internal optical signal and an output signal (P3). The feedback loop formed by this photodiode and laser leads to a strong non-linearity in the variation of the output signal as a function of the input signal. The invention is useful especially in optical fiber telecommunications systems.

摘要: An in vitro process of preparing virus-like particles (VLPs) from recombinant papaya mosaic virus coat protein and ssRNA, which allows for large scale production of VLPs in high yields, is provided. Also provided are VLPs comprising ssRNA prepared by the in vitro process. The VLPs can be used as adjuvants and when fused to an antigen, as vaccines. The use of the VLPs for stimulation of the innate immune response is also provided.

摘要: An affinity-conjugated antigen system (ACAS) comprising one or more antigens conjugated via a plurality of affinity moieties to a papaya mosaic virus (PapMV) or virus-like particle (VLP) derived from the coat protein of PapMV is provided. The affinity moieties are molecules or compounds that are capable of specifically binding to the antigen(s) of interest and which can be attached, for example by chemical or genetic means, to the coat protein of the PapMV or PapMV VLP. The ACAS can optionally further comprise one or more additional antigens, which may be the same as, or different to, the conjugated antigen(s) comprised by the ACAS. Also provided are immunogenic compositions, including vaccines, comprising an ACAS. The immunogenic compositions are useful in the treatment, including prevention, of various diseases and disorders for which a humoral and/or cellular response in the animal is required.

摘要: A system and method for supporting a “hitless” switchover from an Active to a Standby processor uses a hybrid synchronization of interface states to allow applications that have been modified to have HA aware features and non-modified applications to function on the system. An interface description data block on the Standby RP is synchronized to the interface description data block on the Active RP and is maintained in a shadow state when the Active RP controls the system. In the event of a switchover between the RPs the interface description data block on the Standby RP is copied from the shadow state to a real state and applications on the Standby RP are notified of a status change.

摘要: A semiconductor optical component is disclosed which includes a semiconductor material confinement layer containing acceptor dopants such that the doping is p-type doping. The confinement layer is deposited on another semiconductor layer and defines a plane parallel to the other semiconductor layer. Furthermore, the p-type doping concentration of the confinement layer has at least one gradient significantly different from zero in one direction in the plane. A method of fabricating the component is also disclosed.
