摘要: In a general aspect, a carbon dioxide removal system is presented. In some cases, a gas-liquid contactor is wetted with an alkaline capture solution. A first flow from a first gaseous feed including CO2 from a first source is directed to interact with the alkaline capture solution in the gas-liquid contactor, which forms a first CO2-rich alkaline capture solution. A second flow from a second gaseous feed including CO2 from a second, distinct source is directed to interact with the first CO2-rich alkaline capture solution, which forms a second CO2-rich alkaline capture solution. In some cases, the second flow is independent of the first gaseous feed, and a concentration of CO2 in the second CO2-rich alkaline capture solution is higher than a concentration of CO2 in the first CO2-rich alkaline capture solution. CO2 can be separated from the second CO2-rich alkaline capture solution.

摘要: A method for treating a basaltic formation includes providing a CO2-rich fluid in the basaltic formation, generating one or more metal ions from a metal ion source in the basaltic formation with the CO2-rich fluid, providing heat from a thermogenic reaction between a first salt solution and a second salt solution in the basaltic formation, and enhancing a reaction between the one or more metal ions and the CO2-rich fluid with the heat, thereby treating the basaltic formation. A system for treating a basaltic formation including a metal ion source includes a CO2-rich fluid that includes a source of carbon dioxide dissolved in a first aqueous fluid, a first salt solution that includes a first thermogenic agent dissolved in a second aqueous fluid, and a second salt solution that includes a second thermogenic agent dissolved in a third aqueous fluid.

摘要: A treatment system for remediating some forms of sulfur, CO2, and other contaminants/impurities from a gas stream includes at least one of a process vessel and a treatment coil. Each of the vessel and treatment coil have internals, different in design from each other, which promote intimate mixing and extended contact time between a treatment composition and a gas being treated. The vessel, which additionally facilitates vapor/liquid separation, operates about one-half to two-thirds full of liquid treatment composition. In some embodiments, the treatment coil is a serpentine arrangement of piping, into which the atomized treatment composition is injected on a continuous basis.

摘要: Methods of sequestering carbon dioxide (CO2) are provided. Aspects of the methods include contacting an aqueous capture ammonia with a gaseous source of CO2 under conditions sufficient to produce an aqueous ammonium carbonate. The aqueous ammonium carbonate is then combined with a cation source under conditions sufficient to produce a solid CO2 sequestering carbonate and an aqueous ammonium salt. The aqueous capture ammonia is then regenerated from the from the aqueous ammonium salt. Also provided are systems configured for carrying out the methods.

摘要: The disclosure provides seven integrated methods for the chemical sequestration of carbon dioxide (CO2), nitric oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) (collectively NO2, where x=1, 2) and sulfur dioxide (SO2) using closed loop technology. The methods recycle process reagents and mass balance consumable reagents that can be made using electrochemical separation of sodium chloride (NaCl) or potassium chloride (KCl). The technology applies to marine and terrestrial exhaust gas sources for CO2, NOx and SO2. The integrated technology combines compatible and green processes that capture and/or convert CO2, NOx and SO2 into compounds that enhance the environment, many with commercial value.

摘要: A process, composition, and apparatus for carbon dioxide (CO2) conversion are disclosed. The CO2 conversion comprises reacting CO2 with a cyclopropenimine (CPI) to activate the CO2 and transferring the activated CO2 to generate a product of the transferring. The transferring also generates a conjugate acid of the CPI. The process further comprises regenerating the CPI from the conjugate acid.

摘要: An ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) system that reduces atmospheric CO2 and mitigates ocean acidification by electrochemically processing feedstock solution (e.g., seawater or brine) to generate an alkalinity product that is then supplied to the ocean. The OAE system includes a base-generating device and a control circuit disposed within a modular system housing deployed near a salt feedstock. The base-generating device (e.g., a bipolar electrodialysis (BPED) system) generates a base substance that is then used to generate the ocean alkalinity product. The control circuit controls the base-generating device such that the alkalinity product is supplied to the ocean only when (1) sufficient low/zero-carbon electricity is available, (2) it is safe to operate the base-generating device, and (3) supplying the alkalinity product will not endanger sea life. Modified BPED systems include features that facilitate autonomous system operations including enhanced maintenance cycle operations and a reduced reliance on external fresh water sources.
