Abstract: A power-electronics assembly includes a plurality of power modules each having a body, a power stage disposed in the body and having opposing major sides, and a coolant channel defined in the body at a location adjacent to one of the major sides. The modules are arranged in a stack such that the coolant channels are interleaved with the power stages. At least one of the bodies defines a passageway extending between adjacent channels to connect the adjacent channels in fluid communication.

Abstract: An electric drive system of an electrified vehicle has a power converter with phase leg switching devices controlled by pulse-width modulation to supply multi-phase AC to an electric traction motor. Dead-time intervals are inserted into gate drive signals for the switching devices without introducing any significant distortion in the output of the converter. A direction of current flow between a phase leg and the motor is detected. When the current direction is positive, lower gate signals for a lower switching device in the phase leg have a delayed rising edge and an advanced falling edge while upper gate signals are unmodified. When the current direction is negative, upper gate signals for an upper switching device in the phase leg have a delayed rising edge and an advanced falling edge while lower gate signals are unmodified.

Abstract: A power supply is provided. The power supply device includes a power module and a capacitor. The power module includes inverting circuitry and is configured to deliver electrical power to an electric machine. The capacitor is disposed adjacent to the power module and is arranged to limit voltage variation at the inverting circuitry input due to ripple current. The inverting circuitry and the capacitor are surrounded by a monolithic non-metal casing that provides voltage isolation between the power module and the capacitor.

Abstract: A method for controlling an electric motor includes receiving a first control command that is indicative of a desired motor control. A current operating condition for the motor is determined. It is then determined whether the first control command meets at least one predetermined criterion at the current operating condition. A second control command that is different from the first control command is generated when the first control command meets the at least one predetermined criterion. Generating the second control command includes determining a current value of a motor parameter, changing the parameter value, and using the changed parameter value to generate the second control command. The second control command is then used to control the motor.

Abstract: A vehicle power module assembly includes a modular manifold, an upper frame, and a plurality of power stages. The modular manifold includes a first base unit defining an inlet chamber, a second base unit defining an outlet chamber, a mid-unit defining one or more ports open to the chambers, and an upper unit defining a first set of slots and a second set of slots in fluid communication with the chambers via the ports. The plurality of power stages is housed within the frame and each of the power stages are spaced from one another to define inner channels therebetween. The chambers, channels, and ports are arranged with one another such that coolant flowing through the inner channels is in thermal communication with the power stages. The mid-unit may further include flow guides each sized to partially extend into one of the inner channels.

Abstract: A vehicle electric machine may include a rotor. The rotor may cooperate with a stator including a core having an end face, and end windings extending from the end face. A cooling tunnel may encase the end windings, sealing against the end face at opposing sides of the end windings, and defining an inlet configured to receive coolant. The cooling tunnel may be arranged to contain the coolant during passage over the end windings and direct the coolant toward an outlet.

The IGBT has a gate, an emitter, and a collector and is configured to flow an electric charge through a phase of the electric machine. The gate driver is configured to flow current onto the gate at a first level, and in response to a time integral of a voltage across the phase exceeding a predetermined level, transition from the first level to a second level less than the first level.
