Abstract:
A multicylinder petrol engine is provided with a hydraulic system for variable actuation of the valves, which enables easy control of operation of the engine according to different strategies. The engine according to the invention is, in particular, able to operate with a variable engine displacement in a modular way via the exclusion of selected cylinders, to control combustion by means of adjustment of the effective compression ratio, and to control recirculation of the exhaust gases at intake, in order to achieve low levels of consumption and reduced harmful exhaust emissions.
Abstract:
There is described a control device for controlling the speed of an engine of a vehicle, and having a tracer block which receives a target engine speed indicating the desired engine speed, and a maximum engine torque, and supplies a reference engine speed indicating the behaviour of the engine speed during a transient speed state towards the target engine speed, and an open-loop torque indicating the drive torque which must be produced by the engine during the transient speed state for the engine speed to follow the reference engine speed; an observer block which receives a measured engine speed indicating the engine speed, and a combustion torque indicating the drive torque generated by fuel combustion, and supplies an observed engine speed representing an estimate of engine speed made on the basis of a system model and as a function of the combustion torque and the measured engine speed, and an observed resisting torque representing an estimate of the total resisting torque acting on the drive shaft of the engine and made as a function of the observed engine speed and the measured engine speed; and a controller block which receives the open-loop torque, the reference engine speed, the observed engine speed, and the observed resisting torque, and supplies the combustion torque; the controller block controlling the engine so that the drive torque generated by fuel combustion equals the combustion torque.
Abstract:
A method of initiating regeneration of a particulate filter for a diesel engine having a common rail injection system permitting, at each engine cycle and in each cylinder of the engine, a fuel injection strategy performing one or more of the following injections: a main injection; a first pre-injection preceding the main injection and performed at the compression stroke; a second pre-injection preceding the main injection and following the first pre-injection; a first post-injection following the main injection; and a second post-injection following the first post-injection and performed at the exhaust stroke; the second pre-injection and the first post-injection being performed close enough to the main injection to participate, together with the main injection, in the actual fuel combustion phase. The method of initiating regeneration of the particulate filter provides for implementing, at each engine cycle and in each cylinder of the engine, a fuel injection strategy wherein one or more of the first and second pre-injection, the main injection, and the first and second post-injection are performed, and wherein the timing of one or more of the injections performed is varied with respect to the timing of the injections
Abstract:
In a Diesel engine with variably actuated valves, the cam controlling each inlet valve is shaped to provoke the opening of the respective inlet valve during the engine's normal exhaust phase and thus realize exhaust gas recirculation within the engine, due to the fact that during the normal exhaust phase, part of the exhaust gas passes from the cylinder into the inlet port, from where it returns to the cylinder during the next induction phase, while part of the exhaust gas that had previously passed into the exhaust port returns to the cylinder during the said induction phase due to the additional opening of the exhaust valve, in consequence of which the exhaust gas charges that return to the cylinder are subjected to further combustion in the next engine cycle.
Abstract:
Lock for doors, for example door of homes, offices, hotel rooms or similar, as well as doors of motor vehicles, comprising lock opening control means, comprising a control device located at a distance from the lock and a mechanical transmission connecting the control device to the lock. A shape memory actuator being arranged in between said mechanical transmission, so that the lock can be opened both by operating the shape memory actuator, and by operating said control device, in which case the shape memory actuator works simply as a mechanical transmission element.
Abstract:
In a gas-supply system for supplying a generic engine of a vehicle type, comprising electronic control means for controlling delivery devices associated to various engines, said electronic control means are programmed for processing the data regarding the low-pressure part of the system according to a predetermined algorithm, at predefined instants, in order to enable timely detection of incorrect functioning of a solenoid valve set in a position corresponding to a pressure-reducing device set between the gas tank and a manifold for distribution of the gas to the delivery devices. The system is moreover able to detect possible gas leaks from the low-pressure part of the system. The electronic control means are moreover able to process the data regarding the high-pressure part of the system, according to a predetermined algorithm, during operation of the system in order to enable timely detection of incorrect functioning of the valve set immediately at the outlet of the tank or to detect a possible gas leak from the high-pressure part of the system.

Abstract:
The injector has a hollow body housing a fuel metering valve closed by a closing spring; and a support housing an electromagnet controlling an armature. The support is connected to the hollow body, and the armature provides for opening the valve. The armature is fitted inside the hollow body by means of a leaf spring hinge having an annular portion fixed between the hollow body and the support, and a projecting radial tongue fixed to a central portion of the armature. The tongue, together with at least one radial appendix of the leaf spring hinge, provides for arresting the armature with a predetermined clearance with respect to the core of the electromagnet.
Abstract:
A control method comprises the steps of: selectively supplying fuel gas to some cylinders of an engine on the basis of the power required from it; selecting the quantity of fuel gas supplied to each of the cylinders; and selecting, in successive engines cycles, different cylinders to supply with fuel gas according to a predetermined scheme of rotation.
